INTRODUCTION:
Informative essay, as the name suggests, gives information to the readers about a particular topic or a subject in brief. But writing an informative essay is not easy because these essays are fact based. One must perform a lot of research on the given topic or subject matter to write an informative essay.
As everyone knows, Internet is a vast sea of information, but not all information is true. So, one must check whether the available information is reliable or not. Hence, there are many points to be considered to write an informative essay.
PRE-WRITING STEPS:
Selection of the subject matter:
The subject matter chosen must not be narrow. It must have enough information that is readily available to be explored.
Understanding the Topic:
The writer must fully understand the concept of the topic. Then only, one will know how to go about the topic and what are the research materials one needs to look for.
Research, Research, Research:
The most important step before writing an informative essay is deep research. A lot of facts must be collected in order to make the essay really informative. One can use books, newspapers, articles or the common searching tool, the internet. Look out for facts, statements, examples, quotes, statistics and so on, related to the topic. Avoid materials that do not have the publication details like the authors name or the date.
Filtering the collected points:
After collecting all the information, try to check the reliability of them. Then one can filter them by crossing out all the false or fake information. Make sure, only true facts are used to write the informative essay. Sort out the collected information into different categories like,
Main statements
Supporting statements
Examples or Statistics
Quotes or sayings
Then from these choose the information that is relevant to the topic of the informative essay.
Organizing the information:
One can then create an outline for the essay. In the outline, one must use only key sentences and vital information. The outline must contain the main points, supporting points and examples or statistics that proves them. Then one can elaborate on them while writing the essay and also one must make sure that there is coherence and continuity in the written points.
In the outline the introduction part must contain the hook statement, history or origin related to it and the concept of the topic. Then in the body part, one must include the subtopics and important topics that will be later discussed while writing the essay. In the conclusion part, the solution or a final thought related to the topic must be written.
WRITING THE ESSAY:
Introduction:
Introduction of the informative essay must explain the subject matter in brief. The first sentence of the introduction must be catchy. One can use quotes or sayings or some statistics or short poems or anecdotes related to the topics. Then write the history or the origin or related events with perfect timeline.
Body:
The body is divided into different paragraphs and each paragraph is preceded by a subtopic. The paragraphs must have a proper sequence. The paragraphs must follow a perfect order and they must be contrasting to each other.
Words like ‘firstly’, ‘secondly’, ‘thirdly’ can be used to show the order of the paragraphs.
‘Similarly,’, ‘likewise’ denotes the supporting points.
‘However’, ‘but’, ‘or else’, ‘otherwise’ can used to describe the contrasting points.
Conclusion:
Conclusion must bring a closure to the concept of the topic. The ending must be a summary or suggest solutions or show consequences.
POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED WHILE REVISING:
Be a third person:
The writer must write the informative essay in a third person perspective. One must not use personal pronouns like ‘I’, ‘You’ or personal emotions while writing an informative essay. The writer must only present facts.
Reliable facts:
Check whether all the information presented in the whole essay is reliable. Do not make up own facts as it might mislead the readers.
Transparency:
The facts that is collected will either be negative or positive. So, be honest enough to show all the facts without any diplomacy.
A proper order:
Since, informative essays are factual, just do not write them in any order. There must be a proper format and logic. While reading the essay, it must be cohesive.
Uncertainty must be erased:
With uncertainty, the facts must not be presented in the essay. One must make sure that the facts used are hundred percent reliable.
On the whole, the facts must be accurate and to the point.

Honesty, transparency and deep research are the key factors to write a proper informative essay.
