THE IMAGINATION GAME

What if you lived in a world where you couldn’t fail? You could have some of the most insane wishes and success would be the only end result. How high would you aim your goals? Yes! You heard it right. Your optimist self thinks of dreams and desires to cherish as we are speaking. Is sky the limit for a person who has guarantee for success and fulfillment? You could have everything in this world and still be left with nothing as the only element that can stop us in such a world is imagination, the key to unlocking everything we dream

All great things we see today was an imagination of someone who saw it working in their mind. No one could see their vision as imagination cannot be shared, compared with or related to. It is the foundation of what we want things to be. Undoubtedly, a person who couldn’t fail exists only in an ideal world. Some would say these are unrealistic thoughts which can be seen as nothing but a dream. But what separates a dream from reality is the belief that it is real. You don’t realize that you’re in a dream while experiencing it.

Like the law of attraction, we imagine and attract what we want. The following story is about a person who lost their mind on this game like Vincent van Gogh. If you have a habit of reading books, you may have seen authors using complex words and metaphors in their works. I can assure you this is not one of them. Simple and to the point is exactly how the incidents are conveyed through this story.

If you were to ask me what this story is really about in one sentence, I’ll probably say “This is a story about two people and the things revolving around it”. Of course the “two people” and the “things revolving around it” itself is an endless abyss of information if you come to think of it. In a world of complexity, being simple is the most complicated of all.

Some of you may think this as a story of friendship while others may think it’s love. Either way, this is my life story and I hope you’ll like it

Over the course of our lives, we meet a lot of people, each with different personalities and attributes. Some leave us with good memories, some not worth mentioning and very few who influence us into becoming a different/better person. Of all the people whom I’ve met, the main character of this story is someone who cannot be explained, compared with or related to. There is no apt word to express the type of relation portrayed in this book. You will further understand reading the whole story and maybe, just maybe come to a conclusion as this story may not have an ending you wish

With that in mind, let’s get to the story. November 1st 2020, the start of “something strange” is the apt word I can think of. The following incident gave me insight on people and how they act. Nothing special happened that day. There was no memorable moments like going for a trip with friends or watching a movie with family, but it was the beginning of something that I never imagined. Like I said before in the book, nothing is bigger than imagination. Sky is the limit and this one made it way higher. We have yet to see the world.

To start with, I am an NSS(National Service Scheme) volunteer at a reputed college in Kerala, a southern state in India. For those who haven’t heard about this scheme, consider it as a 2 year voluntary service program in school/college which includes social work and conducting of programs for public interest( o yes there is grace marks and it’s the main reason most people join but I wasn’t one of them) like awareness camps, reducing the use of plastic bags and promoting environment friendly ideas. There are also other activities like the NCC, Thavnish and CSA, but NSS is best for meeting people and establishing connection with our friends. As a result of this, I was lucky enough to gain lots of friends, mostly girls

After a year, I came in contact with a junior girl named izabel from NSS. She is almost always exited while talking, even the normal things. There was also a type of slight laugh with the end of every sentence. A great flow of energy was within her. Gradually, I liked talking with her, not because I was into her but because I liked the accent and energy that came with the talk. That Malappuram slang is fun to hear. It was mostly voice messages. I used to make fun of her accent saying that it sounds like a kid voice, and it “was” like a kid voice. I haven’t heard any voice that’s so children like from an 18 year old girl like her

The chats later ended up in calling. Her voice was the same as from the voice messages with the same exitement and energy. The first call lasted 10 minutes or so. It was concerning a doubt on a particular work, but the second one lasted 2 hours or more if I remember correctly on the same day. I don’t recall the content of conversation but it felt like I was being admired all the time. I just didn’t understand why.

Izabel said she felt more close with me than ever before and that now I’m more than a best friend. What’s more than a best friend? Best best friend? I don’t know. Lover? The person who is reading this should know that we have still not met and it’s just been a few days after all this has happened. I didn’t ask much about what she said. It was getting late as the call was during night and I said I had to sleep. The connection between was online all the time.

True…it was fun talking with her on the phone. But a part of me felt being dragged into this. Like there was no choice but to be close with her gradually. She wanted me to see her the same way she saw me. I didn’t want a lover at the moment, or even a best friend. I was content with what I had. It felt like some energy kept attracting both of us, but that energy was controlled by her. Is this the law of attraction? Did she imagine what she wanted in her mind so much that I am tilting towards her? Or is it just a hoax ?

I still haven’t seen her. By this time, I wanted to. There was some kind of connection between us or that is what I think there was. The perfect time had arrived. College called juniors for attending classes for 3 days. That’s it….just 3 days! Most of them haven’t even seen college due to Covid and it was their major loss as the first year in college is always the best. Izabel wanted to see me. She asked if we could meet outside after class is over. I wanted to see her too. Was she the same in person as she was online? I wanted to know. “we can take a picture when we meet and I’ll post it on Instagram saying “my favourite love after chocolate” she added. “So you love chocolate more than me huh” I replied in a funny way. She took it seriously and said sorry….I’ll remove chocolate and write “my love”. I wanted to know so badly if she loved me as all the signs were in my favour, but I still couldn’t come to a conclusion

My home is near college. The people who can relate knows the advantage of location. We get up whenever we want, goes as late as possible and always has an excuse for traffic. The students who are far away reaches 10 minutes early and we reach 10 minutes late. It’s a piece of cake as far as I’m concerned. I left at 3:15PM from my home. Nothing special, just a blue shirt and cream jeans.

There was a lot of people waiting outside the college for bus. It was hard to identify her from the Snapchat filter that she send. Suddenly, I met another boy whom I knew from selection camp. We talked for a bit. I asked if he could recognize izabel. He said that he saw her in college. After a while, he pointed me in her direction. She was with a group of girls and I couldn’t see her face. The bunch of girls notified her that someone is asking for her and that’s the first time I met her

We saw each other from a fair distance. The moment her eyes caught me, izabel was exited and happy(obviously). That meek smile on her face made me laugh a bit. I didn’t want to go there and talk as she was surrounded by lots of people from her class. I waived my hand and she started walking towards me. She smiled while walking. She wanted to reach near me as fast as possible but didn’t run.

I honestly had no idea what to say when she approaches. Maybe I’ll screw everything up. She said hi with a smile. Seeing her face light up felt like one of her major wishes came true. I also smiled and said hi. We both had masks on. I asked her to remove it. She looked a bit different from the photos but was still looking good. All the other attributes were same. The kid voice, height and that fun accent made me listen to what she was saying.

There was not much talking. But we both knew something was going on. The meeting lasted just 5 minutes!! A bus came and she got in, which leaves her at stand and from there to Malappuram. I said ok and left. We didn’t take a picture as clearly there wasn’t time. Maybe another day. I didn’t wait long at college so I went home. After a while, I messaged her. “is this why you called me? Just for 5 minutes?! I came from home to see you and you went straight home”

I remarked on this in a silly way so she wouldn’t feel hurt. She stated that the only reason she went home was because I said ok! If I had told her to wait a while, she would’ve stayed is what she meant. There is a lot of distance between the place she lives and where she studies. I didn’t want her to get home late. She was still ready to talk. We both missed taking a photo together as the next meeting was unknown.
