Born in Baromukhiya village of Golaghat district, Lovlina Borgohain is one of the daughters of Tiken Borgohain ( father) and Mamoni Borgohain ( mother). She has two sisters namely Licha and Lima. She steps her foot in the field of games with her two sisters, and later on her elder sister guides her a lot for further progression.

She was born on 2nd October, 1997. Her father works in a tea garden near their village, and hence they face quite economic hardships. She dislikes wearing sadar  mekhela ( a type of uniform in some of the government schools of Assam), and therefore she left school. She used to sell vegetables from home to home, and most of the people used to call her ‘brother’ because of her looks and actions which are similar to that of a boy. She stepped her foot in the field of games with her two sisters. Her two sisters also received national awards for their excellent performance in kick boxing.  However, Lovlina’s luck was different from theirs, and hence she got the opportunity to start her career in boxing. The Sports Authority of India held trials in Barpothar Girls’ High School, and there she participated and showed her excellence. Impressed by her performance, coach Padum Ch.Boro selected her to learn furthermore practice in the field of boxing.

Her biggest breakthrough came when she was selected for 2018 Commonwealth Games welterweight boxing category.

Her noteworthy achievements are listed below:

     YEAR TOURNAMENT NAME       RANK     PLACE

2017   President’s Cup Bronze medal Astana, Kazakhstan

2017 Asian Women’s Amateur Boxing Championship Bronze medal Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship Bronze medal Ulan Ude,

2021 Asian Amateur Boxing Championship   Bronze medal Dubai, UAE

2021 Olympic Games Bronze medal Tokyo

Though she earned so many achievements earlier, but not come into limelight until and unless she participates in the Tokyo Olympics. After she was selected for the Olympic Games, she became a topic of everyday news. Starting from social media platforms to newspapers, everywhere her name is seen. She had not gained such attention from the crowd. She was like a fire burning inside, and not seen by everybody until it turned into a volcanic eruption. Now she is receiving so much love, respect and support ,but while she was struggling to live her life, nobody noticed it. However earning fame not only brings her in the limelight, but also the area from which she belongs also come. Now, the Government is constructing a pucca road in her area where earlier there wasn’t any such road, and during rainy days, the roads become muddy. After gaining public attention to such an extent, all people are showering their blessings for her. She, achieving the medal at the Olympic Games, earned the fame of Assam’s first woman to win a medal. Her journey ( started with kickboxing to boxing) towards her dream is not an easy one. At the present scenario, every news and social media post highlights her financial struggle of her family when Lovlina’s father’s monthly salary doesn’t meet the requirements of the family. Her journey towards bringing such an honour to the country, her life story left many people with teary eyes.

Summing up all the above discussion, it can be stated that Lovlina brought home the Olympic medal ,and made the country proud. She is the first woman to win an Olympic medal in Assam, and every nook and corner of the state is celebrating her victory in own ways. If some people are celebrating it by dancing, then others are lighting candles to wish her good luck. Talents are everywhere, but a few people can dig it out and work on that. Lovlina Borgohain couldn’t create a history in Assam if she was unable to know her potential.
