Freedom as a value

Life values are the reference points that help keep me on the right path. They remind me of a lighthouse, each beam of which represents ideals, religious beliefs, principles, aspirations and more. Values, in my opinion, are the foundation of a person’s consciousness, because they are laid down from childhood and can change throughout life. They make a person different from millions of people, while allowing them to share their uniqueness if they wish, to communicate with other people and the world around them, to build their future. Everyone’s priorities are different. In most cases, many people are not able to realize their values. And I think this is very important and must be done. After all, when we are faced with an important or even insignificant choice, we should refer to our values, and then it will definitely be the right one. Life values are a kind of internal compass that I trust one hundred percent, and I check every step along the road called “life”.

My most important values are humanity, freedom, tolerance, love for people, and, of course, justice. On the whole, these values already largely determine my worldview and my actions. I believe that the value of freedom is especially important today, because it is the foundation for the democratic development of society. I would like to mention one aspect of freedom as a value: the freedom of the self-realization of the individual. Individual self-realization is closely intertwined with the above-mentioned values, and without it, in fact, the realization of my values becomes impossible. Life according to these values appears as a kind of road map with all sorts of choices of directions. So how can you live your life in accordance with your values? What does a society that values freedom of self-actualization and justice look like?

I’ll try to look at this question from my perspective. Well, when you are a teenager exploring this world, you interact with a lot of people and get to know them. I have noticed that my environment shares my views on life. For example, our generation actively strive for tolerance, cares about the future of the Earth. But the youth of my country faces a harsh suppression of all kinds of ideas and proposals. Despite all of the odds, we continue to stand up for our rights. I guess you could call it “live your life in line with your values.” My history teacher once said a phrase that still remains in my mind: “When you have many obstacles in your path, and you keep going despite it, then you realize that you are really doing the right thing, you realize that you are living.” I believe that the society we hope to create already exists. Perhaps it’s us. We, open-hearted people, ready for change, are the society of the future.
