What has added like a fuel to this fire are the various technological innovations that has come up with regards to the spread of information especially in the last couple of decades. This has been further instigated by the information technology’s revolutions. Coupled with it, the various social media platforms too have helped in this free flow of information in the present age of ours.
This very revolution related to information has its own pros and cons. The spread of multifarious information can certainly enlighten the world being about the various aspects of human life. At the same time, it can malign and detoriate the global society towards anarchy and chaos provided these information’s are spread with an ill motive. Thus, information in its various forms and manifestations can make or unmake the formation of public opinion in a positive way or, in a path which since its inception is diabolic in its very nature.
Coming specifically to the topic under discussion in this essay i.e., ‘Peace in this age of information/misinformation’, we may state that, if information received by the global masses are reliable and authentic then, it has all the forces to aid and abate proper public opinion in the global forum. This proper and authentic information with the passage of time will certainly instigate and incite the world beings towards a path which is coherent and positive,
Thus, information which is not maligned and rather, which is full of authenticity can help the world being in the formation of an opinion which leads them to know and trust one another. This knowledge and trust of the masses of one part of the world towards the other parts of the world will certainly touch the various dimensions of their lives. Among these dimensions the aspect of the world beings which is most pivotal is the prevalence of peace.
The prevalence of peace is the most important prerequisite in this world of ours in order to form a coherent world order. A world order where there is equity, coupled with it, a trend of tolerance and mutual trust of one part of the world towards the other. This development on the global forum will touch the various dimensions of the world being’s life. This will enrich and help them in the establishment of a peaceful and coherent world in the times to come.
This process of the spread of peace among the world beings will certainly be propagated by the serene and coherent mind of theirs. A serene and coherent mind which enhances love and respect for one another among the world beings. This development on the part of the world beings will certainly make the world more positive and progressive. The very concept of misinformation is based on world being’s folly. A pertinent question that we need to answer is— “What is the dividing line between spread of information and spread of misinformation for the world being in their quest of establishing peace?” The answer to this question lies in our very outlook towards the various sources which dissipates information in our day-to-day life. In this endeavor, we must be cautious whether the various information that we propagate via our various technological gadgets are really authentic, reliable and trustworthy.
Here, we the world being need to analyze and introspect as to whether the information that we dissipate has all the ingredients to form a coherent public opinion. Therefore, if we dissipate malicious and faulty information by our technological gadgets it will certainly have its own fallout in the form of malicious and faulty public opinion. The saying ‘as we sow so, shall we reap’ is quite relevant so far as dissipating information visa-vis formation of public opinion is concerned.
The eventual casualty of spread of misinformation will be the shrinking of belief and mutual understanding of the one part of the world with that of the another. It can be rightly concluded that where disbelief and anarchy prevail in a society then, it will have its own impact on the global forum of ours. This will have a varied implications on the body, mind and spirit of the world beings. These developments will result into a feeling of suspicion and doubt among them. This suspicion and doubt among the world beings will certainly make the prevalence of peace in their lives a distant dream. This is solely because, when disbelief and suspicion among the world beings reigns supreme then, a situation of all pervading peace among them will certainly turn out to be a distant dream.
A pertinent question which arises at this juncture of our discussion is —What can act as a funnel that can check the spread of misinformation and thereby projecting peace among the world beings? The answer to this pertinent question lies in following the dictum, “look before you leap”. It implies to the fact that every information that the world beings accumulates by dint of various technological innovations must be accepted by them by doing a lot of introspection and analysis with regards to their authenticity and acceptability.
In this process, they should be cautious enough to cross-check and verify the authenticity of the information that they have received. The world beings should be careful so far as receiving and propagating the various information in this technological world of ours. In this endeavor, they should have the guts to ponder over and analyze upon the various nitty grittiest of the information that they have received and then only they should accept and ultimately rely upon them in their day-to-day life.
