Exploring the Unexplored Beauty:
Travel is just more than visiting places for me. In my opinion I think there are various reasons why people decide to travel. Travel is meant for anybody from any age. In this essay I am going to be giving information about some travel destinations in Southern India which have been graced with infinite vibrance and beauty. I hope you enjoy reading this essay and learn something completely new about Southern India.’
Firstly, let’s learn about Southern India. This part of India is located at the bottom of the country, it is also known as the Peninsular India. Southern India consists of five states Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It also consists of two Union Territories Lakshadweep and Puducherry(Pondicherry). It is known for Dravidian Architecture, Carnatic Music, Classic Dance types etc. But today we will be looking mostly into the historical sites and sightseeing places.
Karnataka:
To start with the state Karnataka, it is known as the “Land of Sandalwood” because of its production of the Sandalwood trees. If we look at the famous places to visit in Karnataka, the first place name that comes in anybody’s mind is “Hampi”.This town lies in the back of the Tungabhadra River. Hampi is known for its historical structures and places near to it. It is filled with ancient ruins which look absolutely beautiful in the current day.
Hampi has also been awarded as the “UNESCO World Heritage Site.” Hampi has a lot of different temples like the “Virupaksha Temple” , a temple which was carved with the most minimal tools in the olden days. Not only this temple, in fact all the other temples in Hampi also are carved like this. Hampi also once used to be the capital of the “Vijayanagara Dynasty.” After the destruction of the Vijayanagara Dynasty in 1565, the mind-blowing architecture still remains till date.
Another popular place to visit in Karnataka is “Udupi.” This is a coastal city in Karnataka. The most popular beach in Udupi is the “Malpe Beach”, this beach is approximately 6 kilometers away from Central Udupi but it is worth a visit. There is also an island in the Arabian Sea which you can enter from the Malpe Beach. This island is called “St Mary’s Island.” Udupi is also known for its “Sri Krishna Matha” which is basically a God Krishna Temple.
Andhra Pradesh:
Andhra Pradesh is known as the “Rice bowl of India” and the “Kohinoor of India.” Andhra Pradesh was home to the Greatest Diamond, “Kohinoor.” In travel destinations, Andhra Pradesh has some really great places to visit. The first place is the “Sri Venkateswara Swamy Tirupati”, this is the most popular and religious temple in Andhra Pradesh. This temple is on a hill, the hill is called “Tirumala.” And to visit the top of the hill, it takes a distance of 26 kilometers to reach it (going around the hill).
The second and one of the most beautiful destinations to visit in Andhra Pradesh is the ‘Araku Valley.” Araku Valley is located in the district of Visakhapatnam. This place is so beautiful that its nickname is “Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh.” It is covered with a forest which looks absolutely stunning during winter and rainy seasons.
Tamil Nadu:
Tamil Nadu is known as the “Land of Temples” because this state is one of the states which has about 390,605 temples. This is not a small number normally itself, on top of that if we say it is 390,605 temples it is definitely so much, especially because it is only in 1 state. If we look at the most famous temples there are, Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram Island, Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur and Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai. The Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram is actually on an island near the South Coast. These temples are really religious according to research and the scenery near the temples are also absolutely stunning.
Kerala:
Kerala is known as the “Spice Garden of India.” The one and the most famous tourist place and the most famous religious place in Kerala is the “Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple located in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum). This is considered as the richest Hindu temple that ever existed. This temple has treasures of Gold which is approximately worth $13 Billion. Which is over 1 Lakh Crore! Isn’t this great? Another great and absolutely beautiful destination in Kerala is the “Munnar” town.
This town lies in the spread of the Western Ghats and having a road trip through this place is an absolute dream come true. It is stunning that the Sunrise and the Sunset look like Heaven! There are mountains in this place which are so high that they touch the clouds and viewpoints are like the mini Switzerland of India.
So you see, travel isn’t just about boarding the vehicle and looking at everything and coming back. Travel just means infinite beauties. There are just so many things you can do while travelling and learn from travel. So never ever think that travel is just roaming around and looking at things, it is always more than that. Like a wise person said “Beauty always lies next to the infinite possibilities.”
