Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, also known as Tom Cruise, is an American actor and film producer. He was born on 3rd July 1962. Tom Cruise has starred in around 43 movies! His most known movies are the ‘Mission:Impossible’ series. Tom Cruise, called a Hollywood Icon, has 3 siblings, Cass, Marian, and Lee Ann Mapother. At age 7 he was diagnosed with dyslexia, which made it hard to study in high school. Did you know that Tom Cruise once considered being a priest? Imagine that! There would be no Mission:Impossible, not even the best one, Mission : Impossible – 6 : Fallout! That would be very bad for everyone, even for Tom Cruise. He also made two Top Gun movies, and he has written a lot of movies himself! The director, star, and writer has made 53 movies, of all types of genres.
Tom Cruise took off in the early 1980s with movies like Risky Business(1983) and Top Gun(1986). These movies, along with The Colour of Money(1986) cemented his legacy as a Hollywood star. In 1990, he wrote the movie ‘Days of Thunder’. Then, just 6 years later, he starred in the movie Mission:Impossible.
Mission:Impossible was based off the TV series Mission:Impossible. The movie had produced a whopping $457 million worldwide, being very successful. The movie launched it to the mesosphere of movies. The Mission:Impossible series is the main thing he is known for. The plot of the movie is: Ethan Hunt(Tom Cruise) is the major suspect for a murder of fellow agent Jim Phelps(Jon Voight). He recruits brilliant people to help him sneak into the CIA Building that will give him data to prove his innocence. The plot was very good and 6xed its budget.
Tom Cruise has had his fair share of failed movies, too. After Mission:Impossible-1, he starred in Mission:Impossible-2. The plot of this movie was considered to be very bad, with Ethan Hunt having to save the world from a terrorist gang who made a genetically modified virus called Chimera. The movie was rated 6.1/10 in IMDb, 57% in Rotten Tomatoes and 59% in Metacritic. Though being a flop, the next few movies in the series were compensating for it. This can not be said for ‘Jack Reacher’, though. The first in the series was considered one of the best Tom Cruise movies. The plot was about a sniper killing 5 people, leading to an ex-Army Sniper, who takes the help of Jack Reacher(Tom Cruise). The next in the series, Never Go Back, was a HUGE flop, making around $68 – 102 million while Jack Reacher 1 made $158.3 million. The series was stopped soon after.
Tom Cruise is also known for his mind-blowing stunts. In Mission:Impossible Fallout, he does a helicopter chase scene dangling over the Southern Alps in New Zealand. The stunt was filmed without any special effects. In a green screen, if you fall you say “Oh, sorry. Let’s take a retake!”, but in the real place, you fall, you dead. That is the courage of Tom Cruise. In Mission:Impossible 2, he had the director dangle a knife a Quarter inch to his eye. That alone was a brave thing, as one flinch or move and he would have been blinded in an eye. In Mission:Impossible Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise holds his breath underwater for a long time. The average person can hold their breath underwater for 30 seconds. Meanwhile, Tom held his breath underwater continuously for 6 minutes and 30 seconds.Tom is truly the greatest stuntman of all time.
Did you know that he is 62 and still looks like a 20 year old? Tom Cruise, a poor boy struggling to read and write, could never have done this alone. He did, though, bring a lot of movies to us, entertaining us and sustaining himself. His 53 movies, early breakthrough, and insane stunts overcame his failed movies, and we shall forever remember him as the stunter of stunts, the risk taker, and as the best Hollywood Star. He has not died yet, and we hope that he doesn’t die, so the film maker makes more and crazier films. This crazy dude has famously quoted ‘I’ve learned to follow my heart’ and he forever will.
