I love every trip, whether it’s far or near. Whether it’s in nature or man-made. But there is one place that I dislike the most. The beach. Literally, for those who say that beaches are the best travel destinations, they are wrong. Beaches are a nightmare for me. Let’s start with the simple things, what can we get at the beach? The waves, the view of the aquatic blue expanse that spoils the eyes, the degan ice at every street vendor, or the coral reef with its sand. people often argue that these things are so memorable. of course, for me it is very memorable because of the beach sand that gets into my sandals or the folds of my pants.
The salty sea water is not something I tolerate, especially when the last time it made my cell phone die. Coral reefs under the sand and accidentally stepped on, ouch, my feet hurt. rolling waves, not recommended for people with phobia of the sea depth. I often imagine a tsunami when I see big waves. My anxiety eats away at my soul. how people sell high-priced food along the beach side, nothing suits my taste buds. Although there were a few that were quite good, it still took a bite out of my poor wallet.
Social media seems to make us swayed by the beauty of the beach, but when I got there what I found was stifling heat. The hustle and bustle of vehicles. Groups of tourists who some did not see or broke the rules. And especially unfortunate, litter. I say honesty. Despite the fact that there are too many people in Indonesia who do not care about the cleanliness of the environment and think that throwing garbage out of place is a common thing. And if it’s related to them hating the corrupt, aren’t they doing the same dirty things as the corrupt?.
Did you know that in my place there is such a thing as a picnic. Whether it’s an organization, a community group, or a school class. In my place “picnic together” is a must that has to happen at least once a term. I still tolerate picnics to places like mountains or highlands. But not the beach. earlier I poured my heart out about how I hated the beach, right? now is an addition to why I hate tourist destinations to the beach.
Going to the beach is a nightmare. Leaving at 6, but the undisciplined people lingered until 7 and we could only leave at 7.30. And the basic thing about going to the beach from my place is that the distance is quite far and takes almost 3-4 hours. lucky for people who get comfortable seats, but not for those who get the backmost seats or on the wheels of the bus. i guarantee your trip will not be as smooth as you imagine. the road to the beach is very winding, not good news for people with motion sickness. like me. although the mountains are also winding, but somehow I am most active in motion sickness when heading to the beach.
The first thing to visit is the first beach destination, I remember it was barongan beach, well I can still tolerate it. We spent about 3 hours there before leaving for Drini Beach. When the sun was above, it was so hot. The fact that we get emotional faster because of the room temperature or air pressure. Yes, that’s how I am. I looked for a place that I thought was a little more comfortable than the others. my eyes fell on the fishermen returning from the sea, the sea breeze sending them back to land safely. enjoying the degan ice that had already cost me half of my pocket money. and trying not to care about the grains of sand getting into my sandals and the folds of my pants. My mouth was silent but my heart was screaming “I want to go home!”.
The journey home left me exhausted and the room filled with souvenirs that my colleagues had bought. They spent all their money on it. The ride home was not so good. Those who had previously eaten many kinds of food ended up unable to endure their hangover on the bus. I covered my ears and mouth. It’s called having too much empathy and if I don’t I’ll be like them. I just wanted to sleep and yes, we slept until we got to the restaurant where we had dinner. I wasn’t in the mood to eat, just wanted some hot tea and tempeh mendoan.
From that trip, I know clearly that “the beach is not my soulmate or my favorite destination”. I’m more comfortable in the mountains or highlands, with cool air and the smell of celery. Even if people hesitate because the mountains are too cold and don’t even have time to take a morning shower because the water is as cold as ice in the refrigerator. for me, it’s a suitable place to escape from the hustle and bustle of reality. looking at green fields, dense forests and feeling the cold air without the help of air conditioners.
You can find tempeh mendoan more often in highlands. And they brew their own hand-picked tea. Until you visit sekipan and see the strawberry fields and you can also pick them yourself. Accompanied by the Halloween village belonged to sekipan, if you wants to know or enter haunted restaurant. I like the mountains more than the ocean. My mother also had same interest as me. Every time we had a day off there would be a discussion in our little family about where to go. Of course, my mom and I were united in wanting to go to the mountains. More than ocean. More than mall in big city. We just like to spend our free time to get relaxation on the mountain and smelling the fresh scents of celery. It is possible that mom will buy a lot of new plant seeds.
