Climate change and global warming are real concerns affecting the earth and the lives of all the people on earth. It is essential to lead a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle to reduce our carbon footprints on the planet. Every day small changes like using earth-friendly sunglasses, recycling, and avoiding plastic goes a long way in reducing our carbon footprint.

Let us look at a few changes we can make to our everyday lifestyle to become more eco-friendly and sustainable.

Switch to metal straws

Switching to metal straws from plastic straws is one way to save our environment. Plastic straws cannot be easily recycled or reused. Most of them are not biodegradable and hence do not decompose. They mix in the water and soil and pollute the environment. So instead of using plastic straws, switching to metal ones helps in reducing pollution. Metal straws are reusable and do not negatively impact the environment.

Avoid plastic sunglasses

Since sunglasses are a solid investment, make sure to buy and use earth-friendly ones. The plastic frames in sunglasses take more than hundreds of years to decompose. So, instead of plastic frames, choose plant-based frames since they are recyclable. They are also biodegradable, which is all the more reason to switch to earth-friendly sunglasses.

Keep containers for leftovers

One way to reduce using paper bags or plastic containers is by carrying our containers. While eating out and dining in restaurants, make sure to bring an empty reusable container. If there are any leftovers, ask the restaurant staff to pack the food in that container. Doing this will help avoid using one-time plastic takeaway boxes needlessly. Also, avoid using plastic cutlery whenever possible.

Use organic cleaning products instead of chemical ones

Home cleaning products often are made with strong chemicals. After cleaning, when these chemical substances mix with water bodies and soil, they cause pollution and harm the environment. A better alternative is using organic cleaning products that do not contain any harmful chemicals. It is easy to make organic bio-enzyme cleaners at home using things we use every day in the kitchen. Making bio-enzyme is simple since it is through the process of fermentation. These bio-enzyme cleaners are an inexpensive, natural and environmentally friendly alternative to artificially produced harmful chemical cleaners. Here is how to make bio-enzymes.

Use cloth bags for shopping

A simple way to avoid using plastic is by bringing cloth bags while shopping. Take a reusable cloth bag whenever going outside or running errands. It will reduce the usage of single-use plastic covers, which takes decades and decades to decompose. Do not throw away old clothes. Instead, recycle them by reusing them as clothing bags, pouches and such. It will help in reducing the number of cloth pieces that end up in the landfill every year.

Cloth instead of paper

Use reusable cloth whenever possible, instead of plastic or paper. Switch paper napkins with cloth napkins that can be washed and used again. In the same way, use a makeup remover cloth to wipe makeup off instead of using a new piece of cotton for every use. Cloth is the best alternative for single-use plastic and paper since it can be washed and reused as many times as possible.

Conclusion

These are a few of the simple ways that we can lead an eco-friendly lifestyle. It is imperative to do our part in saving our planet, and the best time to start is now.
