“Peace is not something we can run towards but it is always something which we can run with”

This is what I found after coming to Bangalore. I was a good student at college except that I had bad

opinions on people and I was constantly running towards the future. I labelled people as good and bad as fast as possible. This concluding mindset was bad and it affected my growth.

When I got a job offer in Bangalore, my mind started racing like anything. This was because I had a closed mindset, not knowing  much about human relations except for my family and close friends. With the emotional support received from my brother and parents, I moved to Bangalore to start my career. I was looking for a single room to stay but got none. So, I made my mind empty and finally, I got a double sharing room and a roommate who also moved to the city on the same day. That’s when the magic started to happen. We became very good friends and had many common interests. My roommate was the only family to me when I was in the city. This renewed my hope in people. Now after six months of deep friendship it feels sad as he is joining his family and his new born baby. Sad that he is leaving the room and happy that everything happened beautifully.

Earlier I was sad because of fear that I was leaving the comfort zone and the latter sadness was caused because of leaving all the joyous moments I shared with my roommate. The journey from sadness to a newer form of sadness gave me a sense of understanding and peace that I have never seen before in my life.

As members of youth, we must have an active mind that flows like a river. We must not allow ourselves to confine to a particular place or a person. Fear is the only wall that stands before love. We must always love people whom we come in contact with in our everyday lives. Also, we must take caution not to turn that love into attachment. Attachment makes our life miserable and turns our mind into a pond.

One thing I learned from this city is that everything around us is temporary. We must be non-judgemental as events are nothing more than events and humans are nothing more than humans. A person might act bad in one situation and that doesn’t make him a bad person. He might act good in some other situation.

The thought that “Everyone is a human being and I am a part of it too” frees my mind and gives me a lot of peace. People come into our life either to teach us something good or learn something good from us.

Peace is acceptance of everyone in our life.

The circumstances will always help us no matter what. I found out that my roommate initially was also looking for a single room. The search for single room united us and a friendship came into existence as a result of it.

I also made great friends at office and it was a new experience. So, peace comes from having new experiences. But the new experiences must happen by itself and we must not force it to happen nor stop it from happening. This learning gave me something invaluable and I urge young people to be free of prejudice and accept life as it comes. It will definitely be beautiful as in my case.

Earlier I did not have much experience. But now as I face life without expectations, it gives me joy and peace to find that things happen our way by the act of not forcing it to happen. We must work hard but with a river-like mind and this way the whole world can be peaceful.
