Life is nothing but an unending journey, where we are always determined and desperate to achieve all the milestones along the way. In this journey, we often tend to fall and get hurt. After recovering, we carry a life lesson and move towards achieving another milestone. During this journey, we come across various people and situations that show us different colours of life that help us grow as a person altogether. In this article, I will talk about different situations that have given me priceless lessons and helped me evolve my perspective.

I first read Harry Potter when I was only 17. I fell in love with one character, Sirius Black. This character had an extremely tragic life, he grew up in an extremely abusive family but found his home in his three best friends. One of those best friends murdered the other best friend and his wife and framed him for their murder. The son, who was Harry Potter himself, survived. Sirius Black had spent 12 years in prison, and reunited with Harry Potter, his Godson, he had spent two years in hiding before his cousin finally killed him. Even after going through all the tragedy, his heart of gold didn’t get ruined. He remained a nobleman and fought for a noble cause and his godson till his last breath.

His story teaches us one thing, no matter what we endure in life, it is we who make it out of that situation. There are a lot of people who blame their circumstances and try to justify their evil actions but the truth is, we all go through harsh times and life isn’t fair to any of us. We must clench to the moral principles and abide by the path of righteousness.

I had a neurological condition. When I first stepped into the hostel, my roommate refused to adjust with me. My condition was given sexual Flavors and I was asked to convince someone who would voluntarily be my roommate. Since I did not have any choice, I had to leave the hostel and nobody came forward to help me. This incident was another eye-opener for me because I realized that no matter what we go through, we will have to help ourselves during times of our misery as no one is going to do that for us. People, at the most, will sympathize with our situation and move forward. We are all alone, we will have to fight our battles alone and win them alone as well.

In college, I realized how complicated adult friendships were actually. People might be friends with you upfront, but behind you, they will talk badmouth you even if you didn’t harm them in any way. I found it very difficult to make any real friends. The college life I had dreamt of was far from what it was right then. I had always dreamt of being a part of a friend group who would laugh around with each other and stand by each other through thick and thin. However, not finding any such friends, I felt that my life was incomplete and would not be happy anymore.

But to cope with my anxiety, I decided to focus more actively on my career, since that is what will help me grow in the long run. Eventually, I started representing my college in various inter-university events and even brought accolades for my college. Experiencing victory made me the happiest and hence, I worked on myself more and more, and this gave me immense joy. That is when I realized that we define what happiness is actually. Our happiness is completely in our hands and we define what happiness means to us.

The next eye-opening situation would be when I received a call from an old-school friend. So, this friend of mine was always a topper and had recently received a scholarship to pursue her master’s. I thought she had the best life, topping her examinations and making a mark wherever she went. However, she rang me up to tell me that her parents were getting separated and she needed an advocate for the same. She also said that her father had been extremely abusive, and their separation led to extreme depression and she had to be under constant medication. Observing her in school, no one could say that she was going through such misery.

From this, I learned that everybody hides their real pain and trauma and only shows us the brighter side of their lives. Just by seeing half the story of someone’s life, we feel that we are not good enough or maybe life is unfair only to us. But the thing is, everyone is fighting their own battle silently with a smile on their face without even letting the world know about the same. Hence, when we see the brighter picture in someone’s life and start feeling bitter about ourselves, we must remember that they also fight through the darkness in their own way.

The final lesson that I recently got is that the sooner you get past failure the better it is for you. I had worked immensely hard on one project but had miserably failed in it. I cried upon it for days, heartbroken and unable to focus on anything else. That is when my mentor said that when one project fails, you do not sit on it and cry about it. You get up and start working on the next project lest your work suffers and you voluntarily invite more failures.

Hence, to conclude, every situation we come across in life has something to teach us. We do not need to go through any life-changing event to get inspiration. Small situations can impart huge life lessons that can act as an inspiration for the rest of our lives. It is very important for us to make the most of every moment. If something does not go in our favour, we must accept the same with a smile and introspect so that we can work on our shortcomings and evolve into better human beings.
