In order to understand the topic of the essay we need to understand what is the impact of the artificial intelligence on the existing job market and what are the further stages of development of the artificial intelligence and what will be its impact on the job market. Then we should study the purpose of education and how to handle the impact of AI. And then we will see the impact of artificial intelligence on educational degrees in the future.
The Fear of Loosing Job
One of the biggest problems of the modern Times is the fear in the job market. There is a fear in the youth regarding job security and job opportunity. As many people are already fired from jobs due to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and in the upcoming time when AI will be developed into artificial general Intelligence expected to be achieved by 2034. There will be a huge problem by that time as the initial version of the artificial intelligence has already badly impacted the job market then the upcoming better versions of the artificial intelligence will annihilate human employment opportunities in a much worse way.
Some people say that artificial intelligence will not impact the job market, however that is just like running away from reality in order to sound positive.
Huge Impact on Jobs
The reason why artificial intelligence has been badly hampering the job market is because companies are willing to invest in the artificial intelligence so that it doesn’t have to pay a salary to a human being. Artificial intelligence is like a robot and obviously purchasing a robot is much cheaper for a company then to pay somebody as a salary for lifetime.
Worsening of Situation
It should not be forgotten that this is just an Initial stage of artificial intelligence. Every few years updated versions of AI will be coming in the market which will result in higher job loss.
The Fear of being Unemployed
As the time goes by, the fear of becoming unemployed will only increase. Some people give big lectures on social media of how to adapt to the artificial intelligence era & protect your own job. Most of the advice is in learning technical aspects & creating AI for yourself. However it’s not possible that every single person in the world gets interested in such things secondly even if all learn AI designing there will be very few jobs available for AI Designing.
Yes it’s possible to learn how to use artificial intelligence tools in your profession. But that doesn’t remove the threat of losing jobs.
Future of Education
The future of education is obviously influenced by artificial intelligence. Students will no longer want to study the courses which have been finished by artificial intelligence. So that brings the Question which is framed in the Title of this essay.
Is Your Degree Obsolete in the Artificial Intelligence Age?
The answer to this question depends upon the Purpose of Education, if the sole motto for getting a degree was to have a Job. And by chance that job has already been replaced by AI. Yes, for such people the degree is obsolete.
However, according to me it’s better not to look at education with such a narrow perspective.
As
“The Purpose of Education is overall development of Human Personality”
So if you have studied with the purpose of learning and allowed the education to develop your personality then you will always find a solution to the problem which is created by artificial intelligence. Yes it’s possible that the job which you dreamt is already replaced by artificial intelligence, however if you really allow education to develop you then that developed personality will find a solution to either do some other job or to do some other work all together.
Certainly nobody will wait in the agony of losing the job forever but find a solution to search either some other work or to do a business adventure.
So this question ultimately covers two aspects: existing degree holders & future degree holders.
Existing Degree Holders
The existing degree holders who are working in a field and in which the job is lost due to artificial intelligence will have no other option either to do some other job or independent work or small business adventure etc.
Future Degree Holders
It’s needless to say as the artificial intelligence will start eating jobs in a particular job in a particular field then in the future noone will enrol for it & ultimately universities will end such courses. However it’s not happening immediately but in future it will happen for sure. Ultimately all people want to study to get a job and when a particular job will vanish from the market then people will also stop studying about such educational courses.
Existing Situation
The existing situation brought by artificial intelligence is that there are a number of jobs which are replaced by artificial intelligence at present such jobs that involve manual, repetitive tasks. However with the further development of artificial intelligence in the future there will be many more jobs which will be replaced by artificial intelligence.
Will people stop studying in the future?
Now this brings an important question: whether people will stop studying in the future because of the impact on the job market created by artificial intelligence ?
The answer is No not totally, people will obviously study even in the future however the subject of study will be based upon which jobs survive despite the entry of artificial intelligence.
It’s difficult to tell at the present moment exactly what will happen in the future with regards to artificial intelligence & education. But one doesn’t need to be an expert to understand that it has a negative impact on many jobs. So there will be some degrees and some educational courses which will become a thing of the past in future. However, all the degrees and all the educational courses will never become useless in the future.
Current Trend in Job Market
If we try to analyse the current trend in the job market of the use of artificial intelligence and jobs layoff then we can understand that at present the entry level jobs which involve routine and repetitive tasks are given to the artificial intelligence. Many of the Software development jobs at the entry level , data entry work, coding work , administrative work are now done by artificial intelligence.
The benefits for Companies
The benefit for the companies with the emergence of artificial intelligence is that it is getting a robot which doesn’t need a salary, doesn’t need a holiday, doesn’t need a provident fund, doesn’t need other benefits which it has to give to an employee. Instead of investing in employees it is much cheaper for them considering the long term benefit to investing in artificial intelligence.
It is wrong to judge companies morally by saying that they should not remove people and use artificial intelligence whenever possible because ultimately the aim of any company is to maximize its profit. If we are running a company or business and there is a task which is more conveniently and easily done through artificial intelligence then obviously we will also invest in artificial intelligence instead of keeping a human employee.
Will Artificial Intelligence ravage all degrees in Future?
No, it’s not possible for Artificial Intelligence to replace doctors lawyers judges civil engineers architects & many more things. There are many jobs which can never be done by artificial intelligence.
Can artificial intelligence replace Humans?
No, it is not possible that artificial intelligence can never ever replace human intelligence. Artificial intelligence can never have intellect which is endowed from birth only to humans. It should not be forgotten that artificial intelligence itself is the creation of human intelligence. As those who created artificial intelligence were ultimately humans.
Biggest Dangers of Artificial Intelligence in Future
There is a possibility that in future if the artificial intelligence becomes unbridled then it can badly hamper the entire world. Such risk is always present with any robotic technology. Artificial intelligence is automated technology which is very similar to robotic technology. If malfunctioning artificial intelligence becomes an unbridled horse then certainly it will do a lot of damage to the world.Then it will be a war between artificial intelligence and the entire human kind. It is needless to say that human intelligence will ultimately defeat artificial intelligence in such a war-like situation. But till the time humans can control artificial intelligence in such a situation it would have done a great amount of damage.
Are the existing degree holders in Problem due to Artificial Intelligence?
This is an important question because those who have become unemployed are obviously in a problem due to the introduction of AI.
Also those jobs which are not yet impacted by the introduction of the artificial intelligence will always be in a possible fear because in the future artificial intelligence will only become more and more advanced.
However, speaking plainly from an educational point of view, those who have already become unemployed due to artificial intelligence have no other option but to find a solution. It can be changing the work and doing some other job.

It’s important to study this first in order to understand and answer the question on which this essay is based. Now the question is whether degrees have become Obsolete in the artificial intelligence age? The answer is No not yet completely but in future when some jobs will permanently close because of artificial intelligence will automatically become Obsolete. Already AI has eaten up many entry level jobs & in future with more advancement of artificial intelligence it will further finish more jobs.
Will Education become useless exercise in the future?
The clear answer is No never because the purpose of education is not limited to having jobs it is just a small outcome of education. The Purpose of Education is overall development of Human Personality which is much bigger than having a job.
So we can safely conclude that degrees can never become obsolete because of AI. However the one Natural outcome of education which was job has already stopped in some aspects & more jobs will close permanently. And ultimately majority of the students study or take a particular degree with sole intention of having a Job. So speaking solely from Jobs point of view there is already job loss due to Artificial Intelligence & in future it will only increase.
Can AI Replace Humans completely?
No never that’s not possible simply because Human intellect is way Superior than artificial intellect. Even this so-called artificial intellect is the creation of Human intellect & it’s surviving on data. If AI has no data, artificial intelligence becomes futile.
This data is created from among humans until data is given artificial intelligence will flourish the day data is stopped artificial intelligence will die.
Secondly humans are intelligent beings when artificial intelligence has eaten up jobs & will eat up more jobs humans will come up with other strategies to survive. As ultimately all need money to survive.
The need of survival is the biggest fuel that Humans have in that need humans can come up with much more pathbreaking out of the box ideas.
Education will only help humans to counter such challenges.
No matter how much technological developments are made, in the battle of Humans versus technology it’s Humans which will always win & have the last say , education will only help them to conquer such challenges.
