Please introduce yourself in brief

Hello, my name is Jimi Bora. I am from Golaghat district of the state of Assam, India. Currently, I’m in the last semester of my B.A., pursuing my honours in English literature.

What are your prominent achievements?

As far as my achievements are concerned, I’ve been participating in literary competitions since school days, and won prizes, too. Besides, for being in the category of meritorious student, I’ve been awarded by the government for both of my 10th and 12th board exams. And later on, I joined in the monthly essay writing competition organised by Monomousumi and been able to won with good ranks.

When did you participated in the monomousumi writing contest and what was your rank?

I’ve been participating in Monomousumi for one year. Every month, I achieve different ranks, however in the month of March and April, 2022, I was able to secure 2nd rank.

What is your weakest point and how do you overcome it?

My weakest point is controlling my emotional imbalance. I get easily distracted by others’ opinions, and this creates mood swings and ultimately leads to frustration.  Nowadays, whenever I feel down, I isolate myself from everyone for some moments and give myself some time to calm my mind. If this doesn’t work, then I would listen to aesthetic songs, which help me relax my mind, and really it’s working for me.

Who is your idol and why?

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar is my idol as I also belong to a low caste like him. I feel a sense of isolation towards being born into a low caste, and sometimes backstabbers also use bad words towards low-caste-born people, and I very much dislike it. I know the life history of Baba Ambedkar and how he struggled during his lifetime. But then also, no force could stop him from becoming such a well-known person who changed history because he is the maker of our constitution, which we’ve been following till now. So like him, I also want to do something grand and establish myself so that those people shame themselves for mistreating the low-caste people and want to show them caste is nothing if one posess the quality to achieve something.

Which inspires you the most why you would like to emulate them?

My parents are my inspiration for life. Both of them possess different qualities which I would like to emulate in my life. My mother is very good at heart and also an emotional person. No matter what situation she is going through inside, she would never mistreat others as per their mood and would welcome everyone with a smile, hiding all her pains. And for me, being like that person is obviously a tough task, as most people fail to control their emotions. My father is a kind-hearted person. He helps everyone in the village with whatever he has. He is very kind and, therefore, everyone in the village approaches him whenever they face a problem. And my father immediately offers his helping hand. This help is not limited to financial assistance, but more than that. These two people are very inspiring in my life and I want to follow their way of living and helping others in my life.

What keeps you motivated in your life?

The motivation provided to me by my mother is the utmost motive of my life. I can see how many struggles they’ve faced in order to provide me with a good life. In return, they also ask me to become a successful person so I can lead a happy life. Whenever I feel down and want to end my studies, I look at them. Their sight itself motivates me to go on further and to study hard.

Where do you see yourself after 5 years from now and what is your ultimate goal?

In the next 5 years, I want to see myself in a position where I’ll be financially independent enough to look after my family and I can take all the responsibilities for them. Nothing could be more important in my life than serving my parents. My ultimate goal in life is to become a professor.

What is there in your wish list?

I’m looking to buy a mobile phone as I’ve been using my existing one since 2017, and now its condition is not so good. I can’t ask them for it, so I can’t even ask them for it, so I’ve been waiting for one year.

Any memory which you would like to share to the world?

In my life, there are both good and bad memories that have been shaping me into a new person in my life. I am unable to share a particular memory as I’ve many. Therefore, I’m not sharing it.

What’s one thing that make you different from your peers?

My dedication towards the every work I do.

What are your hobbies and how do you balance your profession/studies with your hobbies?

My hobbies include listening to songs; watching Chinese dramas; reading books from outside the syllabus; and gardening. I’ve stated that I’m a dedicated person to whatever I do, so a little time studying helps me. While studying, I always listen to songs as I cannot concentrate in a silent surrounding. In the night time, I watch dramas and this also helps me sometimes in my study as I get the chance to explore various themes and setting they used and contrast them with Indian one.

What are your writing tips for your peers? Do you have any advice for aspirants of writing contests?

Writing is a very good process in order to note down any experience, ideas, thoughts, etc. Writing is highly beneficial for everyone in various ways. However, while participating in a contest of writing, one must keep some key points in mind: 1. Preferably use simple language, as the use of complex sentences and languages sometimes makes it hard for the readers to grasp the ideas that have been written. 2. Don’t use exaggeration as it may create dissatisfaction in the minds of the readers. 3. Be focused on the particular topic on which you’re penning down your thoughts. 4. There’s always a good side and a bad side to everything, so try to put both the sides in the particular piece of writing, especially in the case of writing essays. 5. Never try to harm the religious beliefs of others because it causes conflict. Be a secular person. 6. Be sure of putting your thoughts correctly and if the data is provided, then be accurate so that it doesn’t mislead the readers. 7. If you’re using someone else’s thoughts in your writing, then be sure to mention that person in your writing, either in reference form or in quotation form. In this way, you’re free from being a plagiarised person.

What would you like to do your bit for the society?

I would help the needy people of society by providing them with basic needs. I’m a student now, and have no earnings of my own, but I’m studying hard to get a good job so that I can help those people with a bit of my salary.

Do you think participating in Monomousumi contest helped you in anyway?

Obviously, yes. Participating in such an innovative competition is of great help to everyone. Being a student of English literature, I’ve no time for reading anything other than literary texts. However, after participating in this competition, my mind is polished and able to learn about a variegated field as I participate on a regular basis. So whenever I get free time, I occupy myself with the topic provided by Monomousumi each month, and in this way, my thinking broadens to a great extent. Besides, I like writing, but sometimes I lack the ability to frame an answer or opinion to a particular query. However, after participating in this platform, all these weak points of mine have been improved.

How did you come across Monomousumi and share your experience with this platform?

It’s the time when everybody is locked inside the house because of the tremendous growth of COVID-19. Being locked inside the boundary and being isolated from others somewhat creates a kind of boredom. I decided to participate in something creative-writing-related one day, so I looked it up on Google. I’ve been through a number of platforms that provide a chance to participate in creative writing. However, each of them has registration fees, and therefore I’ve not participated. Then I came through the Monomousumi platform and did a study about it, and was able to know that it’s free of charge, although the competition is on an international level. This mesmerised me, and I visited the site to participate in that month’s activities, and I noted down the topic for that month. After submitting it, I’ve been waiting for the results, although I was a bit nervous. But luckily I got the outstanding rank, and immediately it motivated me to participate more, and that’s what I’ve been doing since that day. I like their outstanding topics and the way they detail the sub topics so you have a rough idea of what to include. Moreover, they never charged me, and I like the organiser, Mousumi Kundu Ma’am. She is very friendly, and in the midst of her busy schedule, she always finds time to answer my query. Overall, I like their support and motivation and how they encourage the writers to showcase their talents. Besides, to know their diversified fields of work, one must visit their social media sites and they’ll know how they are working towards society.

Anything other you wish to share..

I would request the organiser of this competition to never stop organising such creative writing competitions as it is the best platform for any writer to pen down their ideas with no cost.

Your thought on “Essay

Writing is everything: basic concepts of essay writing In simple terms, an essay refers to a short piece of writing containing various bits of information on various subjects. It can be claimed to be a small part of writing something grand like dissertation papers. A good essay is consisted of mainly three parts: introduction (a brief synopsis of the topic concerned), main body (including the analysis part and critical comments can be made in this part), and conclusion (putting down own ideas and opinions, whatever is required). An essay competition is a very unique way to write down one’s thoughts and knowledge of a particular topic. However, while writing an essay, there are some basic things that one should keep in mind: *Essay writing is helpful for anyone who wants to write about something about a particular idea. In this way, they can get a chance to expose their knowledge to the readers. Moreover, language and style also improve the writer’s development with time. *For writing an informative essay, one must have a clear understanding of the topic chosen along with its related various information so that whoever reads the essay may get everything in and around the topic and grasp it. *To write a winning essay, one must write something extraordinary, which makes them different from their competitors. For this, they must be sure to know the topic well, and before writing, they should create a rough draught of whatever comes into their mind. They must clearly decide from which ground they are going to start, and accordingly, they should write in a rough format. After putting all the ideas together, they must edit the essay in whatever portion it is lacking in something and then be sure of grammatical errors. *An essay should be plagiarism free. You’ve got to follow others’ ideas and take help from search engines, but it should not be directly put down as it is. One must use such ideas only to know the topic in a broad way and further use their own ideas to write a creative and innovative essay. *A title for any piece of writing is very important as it works like a signpost that attracts the readers. As a result, when writing the title of an essay or any other type of writing, one must be very careful. *Never put false information in the essay as it may mislead the readers in the wrong way.
