Organising a Christmas party for your business can be tricky. There are so many factors to consider from dates to the type of thing you want to do. That’s especially more difficult in 2024.

With more people than ever before ditching alcohol, whether it be the younger generation that have never got started, or perhaps those approaching middle age who have quit for health or addiction reasons, having gone through alcohol rehab, considering a sober Christmas party could be the right way to go.

It can be difficult to know where to begin. After all, putting money behind a bar has long been a go-to. However, there are tons of great sober Christmas party ideas out there, and here are five to get you started…

Interactive Cooking or Baking Class

You can really bring your team together with some sort of activity, and at that time of year, cooking and baking can be a really wholesome experience. It’s fun, requires people to work as a team and help each other out, while also offers the chance to learn new skills but in a more relaxed environment.

It’s a great way to provide your employees with a hands-on Christmas party that allows the creative juices to flow, while also providing them with a finished product to take home to their families and friends at the end of it.

Outdoor Winter Wonderland Experience

Embracing the outdoors at this time of year can be magical, providing the weather stays ok, of course. An evening of ice skating, trips to Christmas markets or even a walk through a light show at a National Trust site can really enhance the festive feel, and all without alcohol.

There are other activities you can add into it, such as scavenger hunts with prizes, or maybe even snowman building contests if you’ve got the weather for it. It’s a great way to really ramp up the festive atmosphere and leave lasting memories for your staff.

Themed Game Night

A brilliant way to bring people together, themed games nights are not only entertaining, but they require teamwork and can provide a lot of laughs at the same time.

You can do it in the office, or hire out a space somewhere, but it’s important to get the festive decor right here. Choose a theme, whether it be movie trivia, Christmas or anything else and set about getting the games together. Almost like a mini Christmas Olympics.

Good ideas can include murder mysteries, quizzes, games where teams need to get crafty, while there should also be plenty of food on offer too. It’s friendly competition at its finest, and that often can lead to people forgetting about alcohol and fully embracing and immersing themselves in the party.

Arts and Crafts Workshop

Following on from that, arts and crafts workshops are one of the best ways to celebrate Christmas while also avoiding alcohol. You can hire a local artist or crafts expert to lead the workshop and create Christmassy goods, such as wreaths, ornaments or even cards.

It’s a hands on, relaxing way to actually do something meaningful, in which people will really embrace the Christmas spirit, as well as being in an environment everyone will feel comfortable in.

Charity Volunteering Day

In the spirit of giving, why not turn your company Christmas party into a day of charity and volunteering? Organising a group volunteer effort allows your team to contribute to a worthy cause while fostering a sense of camaraderie. You could partner with a local charity to help with food drives, gift wrapping for underprivileged children, or serving meals at a homeless shelter. After the volunteering activities, you can host a festive lunch or dinner to thank your team for their contributions, featuring a spread of non-alcoholic beverages and holiday foods. A charity day not only benefits the community but also provides a meaningful and fulfilling way for your team to connect during the festive season.
