I
The chair rocks to and fro
The lamp flickers, casting dark shadows on the blank wall
Of the long deserted hall.
Her lonely silhouette looms large,
Her gnarled hands joined in a silent prayer,
One of those days, so gloomy and bare.
II
Suddenly, she hears the creaking sound of the gate,
Ah! They are here, back from their business trip at last,
Her husband and her darling son.
Life is now so much fun.
Their warm eyes look up at her with a loving smile,
She looks up at them with an adoring tender look, meanwhile.
III
In minutes her lonely house turns into a home,
She is busy laying the dinner table with her china- ware.
Their loud laughter and chatter drowns the air,
She runs around the whole house, with the wind in her hair.
Her family is her heart and soul,
Without them her world would be in a rigmarole.
IV
The neighbours think, she is queer,
They can hear sounds from her house at all odd hours.
All of them curious to take a peek.
But can hardly understand the merry laughter gurgling in her throat,
Or the painful tears trickling down her cheek.
With her husband and only son dead and gone,
Long ago in a road accident.
Why is it she keeps calling them again and again.

Now Mrs. Sen lives in her head
In the huge house all alone,
People find it dark and chilly to the bone.
When she talks to her son, the folks giggle and smirk,
And claim, she has gone berserk.
Her world has become jumbled, foggy and obscure,
She swings between imagination and reality like a feather ball,
Her family- a hallucination, a mirage as she sees them all.

(It’s time we join hands and help such people come out of their state with love, care and affection. Let’s not be so cruel as to ignore them. May be some of our parents are in a similar state. Our little acts of kindness can cure them, and help them live a better life.)
