Plan for our green planet
Do you know what happens when the temperature of the Earth rises 2 degrees? Just 2 degrees make the sea level rise making the people around the sea dangerous and destroy our ecosystem and environment and bring about extreme weather events causing according health problems and decrease in the population. After only two-degree rise in the temperature, our planet, Earth would be destroyed and we’re going to be in extreme weather and our loved ones, friends, families will suffer and die from these odd climate change. Now it is very urgent time to stop temperature rise caused by human activities and increase the amount of carbon uptake to make the net zero which means the amount of carbon emission(the main reason for the global warming) is zero.
So, let’s talk about the plan and ways to save our planet.
Today, I will focus on the education. You would think that does net zero have something to do with the education? Hear me out.
There are a lot of ways to realize the carbon neutrality, which is also called ‘net zero’. You could use renewable energy like solar energy, wind energy, water power energy which is clean energy that doesn’t cause carbon emission like fossil fuels that we use now. This is very good way for decreasing the amount of the carbon emission. There is also the way of using electric vehicles so that we don’t make any carbon emission or planting a lot of trees so that we make carbon into the oxygen which increase the amount of carbon uptake. Besides these ways, there are still a lot of other ways such as having companies make industrial revolution such as developing clean energy technology and inducing that technology into the manufacturing process so that companies stop making enormous amount of carbon emissions. But today I want to focus on the education.
You would think that education? How can education be helpful for reducing of carbon emission. But education is very important.
Let me tell you why.
Ignorance could be just a silly word but sometimes, ignorance isn’t just a silly word but could be very dangerous.
Without the proper education, we don’t know about anything.
When we were younger, we didn’t know that our planet is in danger. Nobody would know that when 2 degrees rise, we lose our home and suffer from diseases caused by global warming based on the carbon emission without the education in school or informative articles from the Internet or magazines .We need to tell our students that how much carbon emissions we are making and how it can affect us. As revolution has evolved, we only focused on the development and now we caused all these environmental problems.
Some who live in the area where still not affected by the environmental problems wouldn’t know the severity, but there is a problem. This is the result of the ignorance. After people suffered from the problem, they started to figure out the reason and started to say that we need to fix the problem. So many organizations have made the plans and this is good. But still young students don’t know how severe it is. Now we shouldn’t make the same mistake.
So, we need to make a proper education for students.
not just a superficial education from textbooks, we really need to let them know what the real environmental problems we have made and we would face.
First, we need to give our students a research homework to make our students involved in the study. They would read through the research papers, essay and they would know how severe and how real it is even though they are not facing the environmental problems right just around them.
Second, we need to make our students practice the plans by themselves. For example, we need to make our students do the real plans like unplugging the electricity out in the classroom or turning the light off like as an actual activity in the classroom, not just a superficial activity so that the students really know and feel that ‘okay, practicing the plans for environment is not that difficult thing’ and make them absorb it as their everyday plan.
Third, we can improve the reality of students using the vr technology. Showing the students vivid videos like they are really in the real situation of flooding or disaster caused by the carbon emission, and then they would know and feel more about the reality and tend to practice the plans and want to study more and care more about the need of net zero and try to realize the net zero.
Fourth, it would be efficient to make upcycling classes as liberal arts classes. Upcycling is a very effective way to reduce the carbon emission by not making waste combustion which causes a lot of carbon emission. So, not just telling the students that upcycling is a good way for environment but we really need to make these upcycling classes and make them involved. It is very helpful for students absorb this kind of eco-friendly way as their everyday custom about dealing with the garbages or things to throw away.
Fifth, we need to take students to the companies where people develop and use the renewable energy trying to realize the net zero. It would help the students feel that the companies are actually trying for the net zero and feel more interested in the net zero technology by watching it directly.
Sixth, it can be very useful to make the creators like Youtubers collab with the department of the Environment and make videos talking about the environmental crisis. Teenagers get easily affected by the Youtubers and social media, so accordingly talking about the importance of the net zero by creators not by just textbooks would be effective for students.
So, we need to know the power of education, It is very important to make the real, proper education about the net zero for the students who will be the next generations and will be the next residents in this planet, Earth.
To realize that, besides the environmental solutions like tree or renewable energy, making the people especially the students more awake and alert about the eco problems associated with the carbon emission is very cricial. Knowledge, this is the key to the net zero.
