Social media plays a very significant role in our daily life, in various subjects and on various social media platforms. Social media platforms like: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X), TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube etc.

People are uploading productive and entertaining content on social media. Internet is necessary for social media. Things have changed and developed that we cannot do anything without internet. Internet has fastened many things, because of it, social media’s updates reach us early. TVs are not on in home anymore; people watch television rarely because they are most of the time busy on social media.

Every social media’s platform has different parts and functions. Earlier it was very deliberate and hard to send and receive a mail. Gmail, Yahoo Mail etc. In Gmail and Yahoo Mail, many features are available by which we can add our resources to send to the receiver in a few hours. There are many other applications by which we are communicating with others, example: WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook etc. We are able to carry these applications in our phone and pc. Earlier Instagram reels were on peak now similarly people are uploading videos on Facebook, and YouTube Shorts.

But nowadays people’s behavior has changed. People have badly addictive to social media. After staying in a huge group, they feel lonely. We should respect everyone’s privacy or personal space. Everyone has authority to do their favorite jobs in their space. There’s no fun now like before after being together. Everyone has a phone in their hands if someone’s sitting right next to you sends reels on Instagram, takes photograph for posting on various social media platforms, not for memories. Physical interaction has decreased.

Who are responsible for this?

The answer is, we are answerable, we are using it most of the time. We are getting addicted to it, we have to take a break, because of these addictions we are not able to focus on our present job. These leads people to depression, anxiety and stress.

Social media apps were made to demotivate reflective thinking. The systems that control our feeds have been perfected to source their user’s high octane emotional content that’s easy to share and increase, regardless if it’s good for society, or for your mental health.

Teaching young people to be thoughtful thinkers would give them tools to fight conclusions based on raw emotion or habitual reactions. This would go a long way to helping slow the spread of harmful content online.

People are losing patience. Earlier when things were slow people were spending their residual time with their family and friends. They had the tolerance, because they knew that it will take time to have the reply of their mail. So, they used to get busy in other work.

In today’s era people are frequently checking their mails and texts. They are checking how many views, likes, and comments they got on their post let it be on any social media platform.

We have to take a break from social media, we have to participate in other activities.

Here are some points of Dr. Logan Jones, psychologist and founder of NYC Therapy+ Wellness on, “break from social media”

it depends. While taking a break from social media can be helpful in some cases, according to Jones, there’s a lot more to be said surrounding why you’re taking a break in the first place.

“On a deeper level, these social media companies know exactly what they are doing [from] a neurological perspective. What they’re doing is called intermittent reinforcement, it is what casinos do too with slot machines. And it’s the same with swiping on Tinder or checking your Instagram. The addiction is the reward pathway, it’s a dopamine hit,” Jones said.

My final words on social media are, it is not bad to use it. Everything has pros and cons; everything is built for a purpose. But we have to be careful that we should not exceed in using it. Humans built things but humans have both consequences, good and bad.

Live your life happily in your personal space and with others also. We were happy before smartphones were built; a whole world cannot be captured in social media.
