India women’s hockey team repeats history by qualifying into semifinal of Tokyo Olympics is ongoing and countries are tallying their medal, India’s opening was good by winning Silver-Medal in weightlifting but nothing after that. Mary Kom, Deepika Kumari, and Puja Rani played well but couldn’t make the medal. But still, there is hope after India women’s team qualifies quarterfinal. Under the captainship of Rani Rampal, the Indian women’s hockey team repeated the history and qualified for the quarterfinal.

The last time India women’s hockey team reached the quarterfinal was in the 1980’s Mosco Olympics. On this Saturday India, women’s hockey team defeated South Africa’s team 4-3, where Vandana Kataria had an outstanding performance by making 3 goals herself and Neha Goyal made 1. Vandana is the first Indian hockey player who scored 3 goals in Olympics.

Even after beating South Africa India’s fate depended on Ireland and Britain’s match. It was necessary to beat Ireland by Britain to get qualified in the quarterfinal for India and the same thing happened Britain defeated Ireland by 2-0 and India women’s hockey team reached the quarterfinal. Now India is to face Australia’s team on 2nd August.

Apart from hockey, India is now heading in the discus throw. India’s Kamalprit Kaur got placed in the women’s discus throw final on Saturday with a throw of 64m. She was 2nd among 31 participants. Indian Veteran Seema Pulia failed to reach the final, as her best of 3 throws was only 60.57. Kamalprit’s next and final match will be on Monday 2nd August.
