The environment is a living space, resources, energy, conditions and places where living things and inanimate objects shelter life, no doubt if the environment must be maintained. A good living environment can be created if there is a balance between living things with one another. Because all problems with the environment occur due to several things, starting from natural factors and human factors and environmental problems will be very difficult to avoid if the awareness of each human being is very minimal. Therefore, the government implements the mandatory preservation and conservation of the environment in Article 67 of Law No. 32 of 2009.

Regulations on environmental issues are also notified by several countries as learning and habituation for their citizens to care more about their environment as an example of reducing the consumption of plastic bags. Not only in the form of regulations, campaigns against the environment are also often echoed by a group of people who care about the environment both in the household, school, office or university environment.

The progress of the times and the sophistication of technology in this modern era has caused a good living environment to be threatened, one of which is environmental pollution. Pollution of the environment actually comes from humans themselves who have polluted water, soil and air so that this phenomenon is known as the phenomenon of global warming.

The waste of food is still high which makes a lot of food and drinks wasted. In this way, the increase in waste has become a global problem because some types of waste are difficult to decompose, especially plastic waste and electronic waste. So a lot of plastic waste has accumulated, and scientists are trying to find the best solution to reduce plastic waste. This problem of cleanliness occurs in several countries, one of which is Indonesia. Public awareness of the importance of disposing of waste in its place is still very low. People often litter whether it’s in the river, on the street, or in other places that can spoil the view. This makes Indonesia famous for its piles of garbage. Moreover, this problem often occurs not only in big cities but also small cities.

For example, Aceh can not be called a flood subscription, but if the rain is relentless, it is prone to flooding in several areas because garbage can clog waterways. Especially low-lying areas and market areas. One of them is the Lambaro market located in Pasie Lamgarot, Ingin Jaya sub-district, Aceh Besar district.

The lack of awareness from sellers and buyers about disposing of garbage in its place makes the market look dirty and smelly. All kinds of rotting vegetables are scattered on the road, not only that plastic waste and pulp from coconuts and the rest of chicken cleaning are still scattered to smell. The awareness of the residents around is very, very minimal, the amount of garbage from the sellers in the market that is not cleaned up coupled with the garbage that the residents bring from home and disposed of so that every time they pass on the road they will feel very uncomfortable because of the smell and the sight of scattered garbage. Therefore, to minimize indiscriminate garbage disposal, the government implements cleaners around the city to clean all centers that become garbage dumps and implements a garbage collection system in each house with monthly payments and provides large trash bins so that people do not dispose of their garbage carelessly.

Environmental care behavior is not only done in the community, but also in the school environment. If schools and classrooms are clean, then learning will feel comfortable. SMK N 3 Banda Aceh, located in Lhong raya, Banda Raya sub-district, Banda Aceh city, is one of the vocational schools in the Banda Aceh city area whose students are the best choice in each department.

Although the students are selected, they still lack awareness in maintaining cleanliness. So that some of them still litter. In class alone there is a lot of garbage scattered, both in drawers, and torn pieces of paper on the table. If the habit is continued over time it will become a bad habit. Class picket is also not running smoothly because there are still children who underestimate it. Usually the students who underestimate are male students. However, now female students do not want to lose.

The school tries to minimize the lack of awareness of students in disposing of waste. The school provides trash bins in every classroom, teacher’s office, canteen, prayer room and other places. In fact, the school provides three bins, namely: paper waste, plastic waste, and leaf waste. School cleanliness is not only the responsibility of students, but all school residents. Awareness of the importance of cleanliness must be applied in every individual, so that the waste problem can be resolved immediately. It must start from oneself.

The waste that is produced, not only has a negative impact, but there is also a [positive] impact, namely, by utilizing organic waste into compost and inorganic waste into more quality charcoal, so as to improve economic welfare. while the negative impacts are:

  1. It creates a foul odor and the accumulated garbage can be an eyesore.

 2. Will become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies, so that it can cause many diseases

 3. Trash in the river will clog the waterway, so that if heavy rain can cause flooding.

To avoid the negative impacts caused, we must be smart in managing waste, such as recycling with 3R and for waste that cannot be recycled can be disposed of in a trash can or tps which will later be disposed of to landfill.
