Why do we say Morya after Ganapati Bappa?
Not many people know about this!
The term MORYA in “Ganapati Bappa Morya” carries a significant meaning!
Devotees frequently chant Ganapati Bappa Morya to honor Lord Ganesh, but how many know what Morya truly signifies?
Morya refers to a well-known devotee of Lord Ganesh from the fourteenth century named Morya Gosavi, who hailed from a village called Shaligram in Karnataka, where his devotion was deemed extreme. He eventually moved to Chinchvad, near Pune, where he engaged in intense penance to invoke the Lord. Morya attained special powers and blessings at Shree Chintamani, and his son constructed a temple in his honor. Legend has it that Moryaji also practiced penances at Siddhi Vinayak in Ahmedabad and at Moreshwar/Mayureshwar in Moregoan, where he also built a temple.
Impressed by Moryaji’s devotion, Lord Ganesha granted him the wish to be remembered as his ‘Param Bhakt’ whenever anyone invokes the Lord. This illustrates the deep bond between God and his devotee. Now this everyone should remember whenever we say, “Ganapati Bappa Morya!” 🙏
