What’s better than a movie that’s hilarious, worth watching and gives morals? I can guarantee that it’s none other than 3 idiots, famous for its funny scenes which never get boring. 3 idiots is a movie full of mixed emotions- I still laugh at the same comedy moments. What’s best about this movie is that it is quite relatable and shares the struggles that many go through, especially undergrads.
3 Idiots is a beautiful story of three young college students (Referred to as 3 idiots), similar to the 3 musketeers. Two of them, Raju and Farhan, were at the college with the idea of obtaining just a degree in engineering and in pursuit of a good job and better livelihood. While they did not necessarily have real interest in what they were doing, but just chose a field of study because of others’ liking or insistence.
There were many others in the college including the infamous character Chatur who resorted to memorisation rather than understanding to get good grades and believed that that the traditional system will eventually catapult them to success. However, when a new student comes to the school, he comes with a different mindset, quite the contrary to other students and even the principal, Mr. Viru Sahastra Buddhi, who took pride in bringing the college to no. 1 position with ultra severe rules and discipline. Rancho was his name, who believed in learning what you love and took the challenge of changing the culture from running behind success blindly to a purposeful motto of life driven by passion to excel in ones’ strengths.
Rancho is a very unique character whose beliefs are very different from the others, for instance he believes that anything should not be done with pressurizing oneself rather use mindfulness to get over the problems. His punchline itself is ‘All is well’, implying to remain calm no matter how grave the problem is, which is the mantra to handle any difficult situation. During the entire movie, Rancho uses his presence of mind and a practical alternative to any unwanted situation. He gets up to all sorts of mischief , sometimes even with the principal and ridicules the boring and stupid rules. One time he even tried to twist his friend’s names (Raju and Farhan) into tricking students to find the meaning of the words given. He often falls in trouble with the principal and other teachers.
The movie is filled with a bunch of both joyous and tragic scenes. However, it’s time to give some credit to the directors and actors who worked effortlessly to make these scenes and this movie successful. The main director Rajkumar Hirani, co-written by Abhijat Joshi and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, adapted loosely from Chetan Bhagat’s novel 5 Point Someone.
The main actors are Aamir Khan who plays Rancho, Sharman Joshi who plays Raju Rastogi, R. Madhavan who plays Farhan Qureishi, Kareena Kapoor who plays Pia, Boman Irani who plays Viru Sahastra Buddhi, Omi Vaidya who plays Chatur Ramalingam, Mona Singh who plays Mona, Ali Fazal who plays Joy Lobo, Paricshit Sahni who played Mr. Qureishi, Rahul Kumar who played Millimetre, Amardeepa Jha who played Mrs. Rastogi, Oliver Lafont who played Suhas Tandon and Akhil Mishra who played the librarian Dubey ji.
What I really liked about the movie is how life values were explained in a humorous and light tone with easy language of course, helping the audience embrace the message. I love the way the movie captivated me and included all the basic factors of a movie like sorrow, joy, romance, fright etc. The simplest statements quoted in the movie, like ‘Life is not a race’, ‘Don’t run behind success’, or ‘Learning is everywhere’ can sometimes be the hardest advice to take, but the cast did a wonderful job explaining these slogans in such a way that they remain, and will remain for a long time, the most important messages in one’s life, no matter who they are, where they come from and what stages of life they are going through.
3 idiots is a recommended family movie, as its morals are important reminders to take it easy and enjoy every moment. To those of you who are fans of comedy, this is your pick. I think undergrads and students need to watch such a film at least once for guidance through rough periods of life in general.
In conclusion, 3 idiots continues to inspire and motivate me as well as others, serving as a reminder that every obstacle in life when crossed leads to self-empowerment, and as I continue to embrace, carry and spread its values everywhere, I shall keep this story forever in my heart.
