The Strange Auto
The beams of light from the moon reflected by surface of the pond, illuminated the surrounding greenery. The chirping of crickets, which usually is annoying, sounded to be a pleasant music to enjoy the visual treat. Everything was just perfect, except the timing at which I was witnessing the beauty. It was 9:35. Maa, wanted me to be home by 9 ’o’ clock. It was not my fault, at least not this time. Our tuition teacher had started late and to compensate this, he extended the class to 9:30, without even having a thought of consulting the only girl present there.
He was too insensible to even ask, how would I go home in this isolated town where barely a person is seen to walk out after 10 pm out of the fear of being carried away by a spook. The other two tuition boys had asked to drop me home but I didn’t feel secure with them. I had some negative vibes from them. Oh! How foolish I am! I refused a known man and am waiting for a stranger to be dropped home. But it was too late for realisation now. Everyone has left for their home and I am now isolated like this town. After a long wait of fifteen minutes, I could see some light piercing through the fog and approaching me. It’s an auto! I waved my left arm with my thumb finger pointing up. The vehicle stopped at a distance from me. I reached to the auto. My antennas received the same vibes, as before. I could see another auto progressing. I wanted to ask him to leave, but after a glance into his eyes, my mouth uttered the address and I stepped in.
Why? Why did I do this? How could I say no to those boys but not to this man? I felt that his eyes had some strange magic. So, I avoided looking at him and glanced out through the window at the houses and trees that went past. Though the roads are usually empty at this hour of the day, a few auto-mobiles went by us and a few of those few, when looked at the old rusty auto, widened their eyes and accelerated their vehicles to their top speed. I ignored those acts as my aim was to reach home as soon and as safe as possible. After a few seconds, a voice uttered,” Adrija, have these cookies!”
The moment I heard my name, I looked up, and things got worse when I looked into his blue oceanic eyes again. After I finished having them, I got back to myself and this time I was determined to not to look at him, ignoring the fact of him knowing my name. I stared out through the window and found a cyclist to perform the same actions as done by the other riders before. “What happened?”, I shouted as he geared up his cycle. “Can’t you see? There is no driver!” “What?”, I said and looked at the seat. There were goose pimples all over my flesh and a strange current passed through me. There was no one driving. The handle turned about by itself. I quickly stood up to take up a jump out of the strange auto but I went blank and I couldn’t move myself. My body was out of my control. Even I was losing my sight. The last I saw was the auto to stop and honk loudly and continuously.
