Before 200 years ago from today , we had the reign of British Raj on us. When the British raj started ruling on Mother India, with more cruelty , the real children of Mother India start fighting against the enemy at a far extent . The people of the “Akhand Bharat ” were dreaming of the” Swaraj” and wanted the wish to be fulfilled early. For giving responses, to their wishes and prayers, many heroes came down to earth ,with the same dream . Among the heroes one of the unsung heroes , one of them is “Manoranjan sen Gupta” .
Sengupta’s Family
The date of his birth is unknown. On September 1898 , he took birth at madaripur district ,which is situated in Bangladesh currently. He had grown up in sengupta’s family . he had not lived in proverty . His father was a proficient accountant, whose name was haladhar Sengupta and his brother were praffulla and Chittaranjan Sengupta .praffulla Sengupta was a primeary school teacher in madaripur and his second brother homeopathic doctor. He was the smallest among his three brothers. Chittaranjan Sengupta , the second brother of Manoranjan Sengupta , had gone to the jail many times during the British’s reign . It can be realised that, Chittaranjan’s patriotic acts made a heavy impact on the mind of little Manoranjan.
Call Of Mother India
Little Manoranjan started learning the sword and stick fighting and soon he became master on it . He started collecting the news about the samitis and the patriotic organisations at a very young age.
At first , he joined the Madaripur Brati Samiti . But after that , his limitless bravery led him to join the Madaripur Samiti , an unit of Jugantar . The Madaripur Samiti was established by the great Patriot Purnchandra Das , who also had given his life for his motherland later .
Manoranjan was not alone there . Many young patriots joined the Samiti , namely Jyotish Chandra pal, Chittapriya Rai Chaudhary and also Manoranjan’s cousin Nirendranath . They were all teenagers at that time soon after joining the samiti , the started planning for a mission .
The Two Missions
Not much is known about the first mission except the name . The young members , were jailed for 5 months for the ” Faridpur Conspiracy Case ” .
But , The young heroes did not stop . After coming out of the jail, they planning for their second mission. This became eventually successful . They were able to murder Nidar Haldar , an intelectual policeman of the British reign . The story of their success, reached to the ears of Jatin Mukherjee , who was the real founder of the organisation “Jugantar” , after a few days .
Jatin Mukherjee was well known as” bagha Jatin ” . The name was given by the local people. He praised for the young Patriots and soon made them the participant of an impactful mission.
The Christmas Day Plot
It was 1914. The world war I , broke out efficiently. Britain was one of the participant of the world war I. As soon as , Britain get engaged with the wars , Jatin made up a beautiful plan . Jatin knew that ,they had to take help from the foreigners, who were the enemy of Britain and his stucked on Germany . At that time, Germany was the greatest enemy of Britain and the Triple Entente .
Jatin did not leave the chance . He met with the prince of Germany and asked for help in Kolkata. He was able to make understand the prince, about the importance of India’s Independence and India as a socialist country.
The Prince agreed to their plan . The plan for the task was organised on the day of the Christmas . This incident is known as the Christmas Day Plot in history. The incident helped the jugantar to move in front, with proper weapons. Jatin and his young assistance including Manoranjan , were able to collect weapons and aluminations from the germany ship , ” Merverick” . The ship had dealt to pass through the eastern coast of India ,instead of madrasa in the southern India . The mission was successful at the end. The jugantar organisation also got a fund of 33,000 rupees from the Germans.
Now the main aims of jugantar was to capture the William fort and Kolkata .
The Battle of Baleshwar
The whole day of 6 September 1914 passed int reaching their hidden place . They stayed the night at there . From the very next day, they start walking for the Baleshwar railway station , through the Mayurbhanj forest in Odisha . By these time the British got to know about them and made an announcement to reward the person , who will found the “bandits”.
By 9th September 1915, Jatin with his followers including Manoranjan, reached Baleshwar at buri balam. They swam the river and found a steady dry ditch . They chosen the ditch as the best suitable place for fight.
At this time ,the British tracked the place and reached there . The British surrounded them from the four sides , with powerful guns and other weapons .
When the young boys realised it . they request Jatin to escape , but Jatin refused the proposal . They fought but they could not fight for long . The battle is known as ” The Battle of Baleswar ” .
Martyrs
Chittapriya Roy Chaudhari felt dead in the war . Jatin and Jyotish caught, seriously wounded .
Manoranjan and his cousin, Nirendranath tried to escape , but they failed .
Bagha Jatin , the leader of Jugantar , died in Baleshwar hospital on 10th September 1915 . Jyotish also died for the brutal torture of the policeman after some weeks . Manoranjan and his cousin, Niten , were sent to Andaman Cellular Jail . They were sentenced to death in October 1915 and were executed in December 1915 by hanging. Manoranjan was only 16 to 17 years old and other members would be probably between 20 to 25.
Today’s history did not leave any page for them but at that time at Jugantar became a pan- Indian movement for their sacrifices of lives . Whether the contributions of him and others are not being written in the pages of our history , we will be always grateful to them for their great sacrifices .
