 PV Sindhu

Some unique facts

  • Sindhu was born on July 5, 1995 in Hyderabad and is one of just two Indian badminton players to have won an Olympic medal, the other being Saina Nehwal .
  • Additionally, She is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal.

In 2016 during Rio Olympics, silver medalist PV Sindhu is the only Indian shuttle competed in the women’s singles category this year. She had missed out on gold last time around after losing to Spain’s Carolina Marin in the final but would be hoping to better her medal colour this year. While she might not have been in the best of forms off late, but she remains one of India’s biggest hopes at the Tokyo Games.

Neeraj Chopra is now the blue-eyed boy of Indian sports. His Gold medal in the javelin throw at the Asian Games at Jakarta has enthused one and all. He will also represent India in future competitions

  • As a child, Neeraj was fed all yummy, calorie-rich desi delights by his loving grandmother and he had become a chubby child. 
  • He was spotted in 2011 by javelin thrower Jaiveer of Binjhol while he was jogging at Shivaji stadium in Panipat .
  • From a chubby child to a fit and slim athlete was not an easy job for him and his coach , but they somehow managed to do it.
  • He represented INDIA in Javelin throw.

Neeraj Chopra was being hoped to bring home India’s first-ever Olympics medal in athletics this year. Won many gold medals in commonwealth and Asian games but took part for the first time in 2020 in Olympics. He qualified for Tokyo in January last year and his highest throw currently stands at 88.07m. If he can do better that slightly, Chopra might earn a podium finish at the Games.

He has broken his own record by throwing 88.07m in early March at the Indian Grand Prix 3 in Patiala this year.
Further, he has won gold at 3 competitions. In 2018, including the Gold Coast commonwealth Games in Australia, the sotteville Athletics Meet in France and many other medals.

 Saurabh Chaudhary

  • Saurabh Chaudhary, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Kalina village, was born on May 12, 2002.
  • Saurabh used to travel 15 kilometers from his village to get training every day, and he showed some impressive results right away in the first few days, which drew the attention of his coach, Amit Sheoran.
  • Afterwards, he represented India in the sport shooter field.

One of India’s brightest medal hopes at the Tokyo Olympics, Saurabh Chaudhary is currently ranked second in the world rankings. He competed in the Men’s 10m air pistol and Mixed 10m air Pistol categories at the Olympics. The 19-year-old was the youngest to win a gold medal at the Asian Games in 2018 and had gunned for glory at Olympics in the year 2020.

He is the only Indian shooter to win a gold medal in ISSF World Championship, ISSF World Cup, Youth Olympic Games, Asian Games and Asian Air Gun Championship.
He broke his own world record with a score of 245.5 and claimed gold in Junior Men 10m Air Pistol at 2018 World Championship in Changwon, Korea.

Bajrang Punia 

India’s best in wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics, Bajrang Punia competed in the 65kg weight category. He had been one of the best wrestlers in the country in the last couple of years and would head into the Olympics as the second seed with high hopes of a podium finish. As a freestyle wrestler Bajrang Punia represented India and got its first success of Gold medal in the Asian Games 2018 defeated Daichi Takatani on Day 1. Punia, who looked at home while taking on the mat was confident throughout his way to the final. While there were a lot of hurdles in the life of Bajrang Punia ,he won the gold medal in the final of the men’s 65kg event at the Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series in Rome on Sunday.

 Mary Kom

Some Unique Facts about Mary Kom

  • Mary Kom is the first Indian female boxer to win gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
  • Mary Kom is the only Indian female boxer to qualify and won a bronze medal for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category.
  • She is the only female Indian boxer to have won an Olympic medal and will be aiming for her second medal this year. 

The six-time world champion might not be a favorite in the women’s 51kg category, but her opponents should rule her out at their own peril. One of the most experienced campaigners in the Indian contingent, Mary Kom will be hoping to better her bronze medal from the 2012 Olympics. She is the only female Indian boxer to have won an Olympic medal and will be aiming for her second medal this year.
