One of the latest phenomena in British vacationing is “glamping”, but people from outside of the UK may be left wondering what glamping is. Essentially, glamping is a camping experience that contains almost all the amenities of a traditional vacation; hence the combination of the words “glamorous” and “camping”. Glamping could refer to luxury yurts, lodges, or caravans. The UK is abundant in these sites, including Allens Caravans.
The premise of glamping is that it allows you to be at one with nature without compromising on the luxuries in life you’re used to. Detailed below are just some of the differences between glamping and camping.
Heating
One of the biggest aspects that put people off camping is the notion of being cold. When you’re not sat by a campfire, and it comes to going to sleep, you solely have to rely on layering to keep warm. In addition to thick sleeping bags and opening and closing the tent flap, these are the only things you can do to warm yourself up.
Glamping, on the other hand, will involve accommodation that’s heated. For instance, wood-burning stoves are very popular in glamping accommodations. As a result, coziness and comfort are assured in glamping accommodations, which isn’t necessarily the case for traditional camping.
Cooking
While glamping provides you with more options than camping when it comes to food options, each has great food options. Essentially, when camping, you can indulge in anything that can be cooked over a fire, and the same can be said for glamping. With glamping, though, you’ll also have the option of stoves and hobs.
Although the option is there to cook something more traditional, it’s fun to get in the spirit of camping by cooking “campfire food”. This includes baked potatoes, hot dogs, burgers, s’mores, and more. These all taste better when cooked on a real fire!
Bathrooms
Perhaps the biggest deterrent to people going camping is the lack of bathrooms. When camping, when nature calls, you need to answer it in nature itself. While some campsites will contain a communal toilet and a shower block, as you can imagine, these aren’t always the most pleasant of places.
In contrast, glamping accommodations tend to be equipped with real bathrooms and warm running water in your individual living space. As a result, you’ll be able to bathe and use the toilet in comfort. This is one of the biggest pros to glamping over camping.
Sleeping
When camping, you might have a sleeping bag or a camp bed, but either way, you’ll essentially be sleeping on the floor. This isn’t the case for glamping, as your accommodation will contain a comfortable bed with a real mattress and linen bedding.
As a result, anyone who goes glamping isn’t forced to “rough it” as much as those who go camping. It’s all about experiencing nature while still living in comfort, as we don’t often like to stray outside of our comfort zones. Thankfully, with glamping, you don’t have to!
Accommodation
Camping tends to involve the packing and setting up of a tent, usually in the middle of nowhere. This leaves you quite vulnerable to the elements, with the risk of your tent ripping and leaking.
Glamping, however, only requires you to show up to the site. Your accommodation will be there waiting for you and will be equipped with all the necessary living amenities. This includes running water, electricity, and everything else we’ve come to expect of a traditional home. When it comes to comfort, camping simply can’t compare to glamping, which is what sets it apart from the traditional mode of vacationing outdoors.
