To put it simply Essay Bot is nothing more or less than a life changer to high school or any student in the world. I’m sure many of us have spent hours or pull all-nighters just staring at an empty google Docs page. We are blankly looking at the blinking cursor without anything in mind and a blank white page just staring back at you when your assignment is literally due the next morning. No matter how hard you ponder over something, your mind doesn’t think of anything. Your mind is all groggy from the 5 cups of caffeine you’ve had that morning but at the same time, you can’t bring yourself to go to sleep because of the anxiety of getting a bad grade cloaking your body. We’ve all had that problem and we think that we are hopeless we wish for a magical creature to appear before our eyes and to write everything for us. Well little did we know that that magical creature lies one click away.
Essay Bot is essentially a service that writes essays for you. Once you copy and paste a paragraph you want to paraphrase, it switches the paragraph format, switches up some words with its synonyms and dictionary to the point where even if you put it under a plagiarism detector it will not detect anything although you’ve just directly used information that is not yours. Furthermore, it also creates sentences for you, so with its AI system it tries its best to make the most reasonable and sensible sentences after what you’ve written. While this service isn’t free, many people see the worth of paying around $10 monthly just to avoid their sleepless nights and remove an enormous amount of pressure on themselves.
So how did the Essay Bot come to be? Well, Aaron Yin the founder of this service first launched it in 2017 as a service to provide Resume constructing services and also services for small businesses in branding their company. However, this never became successful. So he quickly folded his idea and ventured out to look for a different one. That’s when he realized that the people who need the most help right now are high school students. Like teh scenario I described earlier, those who are in desperate need to reach their deadlines for essay assignments. So there he found his thirsty demographic in desperate need of help where hundreds of millions of students were waiting for him to develop his service.
However as expected, not everyone was satisfied with this service and so came its controversy. To many, this service seemed as if it was cheating. Well, students are handing in work that they have not put a single thought or effort into and receiving close to perfect scores. Essays are supposed to evaluate one’s skills to write, synthesize ideas, interpret information, and gather sources. However, if something else is doing that for you doesn’t it just ruin the entire point of an essay assignment? This was the general idea of what the opponents of the Essay Bot had to say. However, the founder, Aaron Yin, has a different stance and perspective on this topic. He believes that this service is no different from what a translator does. It simply puts a pile of words into a new form. Which merely is paragraphing; something students already do in most of their work with or without the Essay Bot. So what he believes the Essay Bot is doing is just harmless as it’s just helping students do something they’ve continued to do in a more efficient and fast manner.
Furthermore, a lot of people have shown to see their disappointment with the quality of the actual service they offer. Because it is an AI generator that writes the essays it isn’t always accurate nor at its best quality. The Essaybot never creates sentences from scratch. Instead, they just rewrite bodies of paragraphs from the internet that they believe to be most relevant to your writing. Thus, you could be left with an essay that’s too long or with grammatical errors as seen by the reviews written for Essaybot.
In conclusion, while it can be argued that the Essaybot is a revolutionary new technology helping many around the world, it certainly has its drawbacks. But as technology advances it might be a bit too early to assume the potential the Essaybot holds in the future.
