There comes a time in everyone’s life when they just need to get away from it all, check out of the rat race, flee the foul weather, and go find their bliss. It’s different for everybody, some may long to ski a snowy mountain, whilst others are drawn to the wide-open spaces of a cross-country desert trek. In my case, and I am far from alone in this, my go-to pleasure place is the beach, and more specifically, the tropical beach.

There’s just something about a balmy breeze blowing in across a cerulean sea making the palm fronds gently rustle, whilst I sit on white sands watching the waves lap against my toes. It’s paradise to me, and an experience I find myself craving as I stare at the snow falling through a frosty window pane. This urge needs to be indulged, and when I do so I know exactly where to go, a tropical paradise bar none- The Maldives Islands.

The Maldives boasts 1,192 islands divided into 26 natural atolls, of which 188 are inhabited. The Maldives stretch across the equator in the Indian Ocean, so it doesn’t get any more tropical than that! The stunning white sand beaches and brilliant blue seas are the perfect place to make your escape to. When you visit be sure to make a reservation at one of the fantastic water villas in the Maldives.

Imagine relaxing in your luxurious accommodations built over the ocean’s surface, then being able to simply walk from your sea view deck down a flight of stairs directly into the warm, inviting water! It’s the perfect place to enjoy all the best that the Maldives has to offer; great hospitality, sumptuous cuisine, and splendid spas all against the backdrop of the gorgeous tropical sea.

And, lest you thought I forgot, the beaches are marvellous, too! The Maldives is famed for being home to some of the world’s best beaches, making it the perfect destination for beachcombers, sunset and sunrise watchers, and sandcastle builders from around the world. Here are just a few of the best of the best beaches for you to explore:

Veligandu –  This beach features a splendidly long sandbank, perfect for seaside strolls.

Bikini Beach – The crystal-clear water is perfect to dive into after a relaxing beach walk.

Hulhumale Beach – A great place to indulge in water sports like kite surfing.

Anantara Veli – a secluded private beach, just a short stroll (or swim!) from your water villa!

Villingili – have a picnic on the white powdery sand and watch the sunset over the Malé town skyline.

Gulhi Beach – a quiet beach perfect for contemplating the sea’s endless beauty.

So, if you want to get sand between your toes and feel the salt spray of the tropical ocean breezes on your face, come to the Maldives, your beach paradise with sun and surf guaranteed.
