SHADES OF A WOMAN

Risen from the sinful chains of the ‘forbidden fruit’,
I was the ‘Eve’ of your wilful brute.
Shedding my blood’s blood to cleanse your vilification,
I was the ‘Virgin Mary’ to humanity’s putrefaction.

I walked through fire, burnt through ‘chaste’ ordeals,
I was the Sita of your slanderous appeals.
I drenched my bloodied hair in a revengeful bait,
I was the ‘Draupadi’ of your sinister traits.

I gulped the alleged slurs and died to quench your hideous contempt,
I was the ‘Heer’ of a malignant attempt.
I bore the torch of freedom when the ‘lamp’ of my life had doused itself,
I was the flickering light of Begum Hazrat itself.

I fought with valour, my courage unshaken,
I was the ‘Rani Lakshmibai,’ your spirit awakened.
I defied your conquest with my resolute might,
I was ‘Kittur Chennamma’ in the dark of night.

I led my people, fierce and brave,
I was ‘Rani Durgavati,’ who never became your slave.
I stood tall against invasions, my heart full of flame,
I was ‘Rani Abbakka Chowta,’ carving out my name.

I held my child close to me to fight the battle
Of life and kindness.
I was the raging fire that burnt in your
Veins,
I was the Rani of Jhansi in you.

You may call me names,
And tangle me in vicious games,
Yet, I’ll be the question unanswered,
A paradox of will and calamities,
An oxymoronic equation,
An ocean of love,
A mystic disparity.

I *AM A WOMAN WITH VARIED IDENTITIES*
