Books are great source of knowledge to man, women and society. I am very affection of books. I spend a lot of time in reading books of great authors. I like read books based an almost every subject like Science, Mathematics, Nature, History, Sports, etc. I have read books and novels written by authors like R.K.Narayan, Rabindranath Tagore, A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Mahatma Gandhi, William Shakespeare etc. All these authors are written great pieces of Literature.

My favourite author is Rabindranath Tagore. He belongs to a very respectable family of Bengal. He was born on 7th may 1861 in Kolkata. His father’s name was Sri Devendranath Tagore and mother’s name is Sarada Devi. His mother was died in his early childhood. Tagore’s father was a landlord and a social reformer. He was not only one from his family who was a writer. His brothers were also poets, musicians, writers, etc. His father wanted to make him a barrister.

Tagore was admitted to a public school in England. He studied law for some time but soon he left law and started reading Shakespeare and various English literature. He completed Higher education in England. After coming back to India, he wrote a number of Novels, Plays, Dramas, Short Stories and Poems. All these writings talk about the Indian Culture and richness. He won the Noble Prize of Literature entitled “Gitanjali” which is a collection of short poems. It made him famous throughout the world. His poems are full of beauty of nature, love of God and children. His song “Jana Gana Mana” is our National Anthem. His short stories “Kabuli Wala”, “Subha” and “The Postmaster”. He was successful in every field of writing.  Rabindranath’s best drama was Visarjan and his first short story was Bhikarini. He later formed a huge collection of 84 short stories called Galpaguchchha during the period 1891-1895.

Tagore was also very fond of drawing and painting. He drew several sketches, doodles and paintings which were put up in exhibitions at Paris and London. He therefore reshaped Bengali literature, art and music with a blend of Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tagore despised the rote learning method and conceived a new kind of university and named it Visva Bharati which was a connecting link between India and the world. He laid the foundation stone of Visva Bharati on 24th December 1918 at Santiniketan. He taught the students and contributed his Nobel Prize money towards the development of the university. He was a Versatile genius. His work has been translated into many languages and read all over the world noble person like him are rarely born.

Not just as an author. I also love and respect Rabindranath Tagore also a person. The Bengali writer loved his country India and worked for its betterment. He raised voice against the British and played an important role in India’s freedom Struggle. He tried to bring about a revolution by way of his writing. Through he belongs to a rich family he was grounded and has a soft corner for the poor class. He was very kind and gentle human being. He worked for the upliftment of the poor. He inspired people to seek education as it was essential for leading a better life. He may have led a luxurious life but he decided to serve his country and his countrymen. He went through many hardships to further this aim.  Tagore also took up painting. He introduced a completely new form of art and his paintings were so exceptional that he won himself a very significant place among India’s famous contemporary artists.

In Conclusion, Rabindranath Tagore was not just an author but also a musician, painter, religious reformer, educationist and cultural leader. He was a true patriot. He had great regard for his country and love for his countrymen. Though he had a rather disturbing personal life, it did not spirit to write inspirational books and work for those around him.

Rabindranath Tagore was popularly known as “Gurudev”, “Kobi guru” and “Biswa Kobi” by the people of India. He was a multi-talented personality and well-known for his noteworthy contribution to the field of literature, art, politics and music. The great poet, playwright and philosopher breathed his last on 7th August 1941 at his ancestral residence in Jora Sanko. He was not only a representative of the nation but a wholesome product of Mother Earth, an amalgamation of Indian and modern values. Even though he is not among us, his presence can be felt through his vast works. His birthday is celebrated as Rabindra Jayanti in West Bengal. He will always be remembered as the source of inspiration for noble thoughts and great ideas for humanity.
