Merchant Navy Eligibility
The candidates must have the following merchant navy qualifications to get a job:
- Class 12 subjects must include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The candidate must score 50% or more in English and an average of 60% or above in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- Minimum age is 17 years and maximum age is 25 years.
- Candidate must be unmarried and an Indian citizen.
- Candidate must have normal vision. Power up to +/- 2.5 is also qualified.
- Clearing the entrance examination, a screening test and written examination is compulsory.
- A medical test is obligatory for admission. Certificate from a registered medical practitioner is required.
- Ship-training courseis mandatory for employment. The short-term course teaches the candidates about general voyaging concerns.
While a lot of private institutes offer training programs for merchant navy, the colleges accredited by the IMU are deemed as the best ones.
Interested candidates can attend the Indian Maritime University Entrance Test (IMU CET 2019). It is also called the All India Merchant Navy Entrance Exam. The exam usually takes place in May every year, while the eligibility criteria are:
- 10th Grade for GP rating course
- 12th Grade with 60% average (PCM)for Deck and Engine Cadets
The entrance examination is in the MCQ format and covers various topics on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, General IQ and EQ, and Reasoning.
