History of Thanjavur Temple:

Tanjore Temple is an impressive monument built by Raja Raja Choran, the great king of the Chola dynasty. Thanjavur Temple is mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva as Raja Raja Choran is a devoted devotee  of Lord Shiva.

This magnificent temple was built to honor the famous achievements of the Chola family  in the fields of architecture, painting, bronze casting and sculpture. Brihadiswarar Temple Thanjavur  is the world’s first complete granite temple weighing over 130,000 tons.

Another impressive architectural  feat of his is the 200-foot Vimanam (temple tower), the tallest in the world. The temple’s kumba is  carved out of a single piece of rock and weighs about 80 tons.

Honors of Brihadeshwara Temple, Thanjavur:

The temple is part of the Great Living Chola Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Indian Post Office has issued a rupee stamp depicting a 216-foot-tall Raja Gopuram (Vimana).

Shore temple:

Mahabalipuram

Built during the Pallava dynasty, the place is an architectural highlight. Coastal temples and rock carvings create a unique blend of history and nature. It is an elegant temple complex that represents the pinnacle of Dravidian art and architecture. Its design is so unique that it seems to catch the first rays of  the sun at dawn and illuminate the water at the end of the day.

Although temples at the time were  usually made of stone, the structure is unique because it is made entirely of stone. The temple is a five  storied Hindu temple unlike any other monolithic structure in Mahabalipuram. The entire templecomplex was built of finely cut locally available granite. The most innovative design element of the entire temple is the “shikhara” or crest of the temple, which is built in a steep stepped style and tapers upwards like most Hindu buildings.

All the elements of Dravidian architecture are here in the coastal temples, including “shikhara”,  “vimana”, “gopuram” and animal carvings. The main sanctuary is east facing the sea. It is a neat building  with two temples dedicated to Lord Shiva facing East and West.

Between those two sanctuaries is his third sanctum that honors Lord Vishnu and rests on the snake “Sesha”. The entire temple complex is covered with amazingly realistic and decorative carvings. The Mahabalipuram Seaside Temple, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was probably built as a work of art rather than a place of worship.

Located in Thirunallar in the Karaikal district of Pondicherry, it is one of the most famous Navagraha temples in Tamil Nadu. Thirunallar Lia Saniswaran temple is the only temple where Lord Saniswaran lost all power to Lord Shiva who saved his devotee Narangi from Saturn’s curse. Launched by NASA, the satellite automatically orbits the Earth when it passes over the Saneswarar Temple (a Hindu temple dedicated to Saturn) in Tirunalallar Tamil Nadu, India.

The story goes on to say that NASA also officially recognized such an effect, sending several scientists, but finding no possible scientific explanation, they returned and said: “It is a miracle. The same UV light should cause the satellite to slow down every time it passes that spot.
