Google is bringing Project Starline—a technology that makes video calls feel like in-person meetings—to market. After years of internal testing, the company is partnering with HP to launch the product in 2025.
Google hasn’t shared exact details on how Starline will work in everyday life, but it may be integrated into platforms like Google Meet and Zoom. More information is expected later in 2024.
What is Project Starline?
Google introduced Starline in 2021 as a futuristic video booth that used cameras and depth sensors to capture a person from multiple angles. The system then created a real-time 3D model, making the caller appear as if they were physically present.
By 2023, Google had refined the technology. The bulky booth was replaced with a single-screen setup that relies on AI-powered cameras instead of complex depth sensors. This makes Starline smaller, simpler, and more practical for mass adoption.
Why It Matters
If Google successfully integrates Starline into mainstream video conferencing, it could change remote communication forever. Meetings would feel more natural, business interactions more personal, and collaboration more immersive. With HP now involved, Starline is moving from an experimental project to a real-world product.
