Byju Raveendran is a 41-year-old Indian billionaire who has a dream that every single child should be able to gather knowledge in a more interesting and easy to remember way. With this idea in the mind, he founded the company ‘Think and learn’ in 2011. As the no. of mobile and other tech. users increased in India, he launched the world-famous “Byjus” app in 2015. To date, Byjus has stepped into every district of India and is also expanding its usage in foreign countries. Byjus uses a variety of games, quizzes, and challenges to make children understand the concepts very easily. The ‘Byjus app has a child-friendly interface that can be understood by users very easily. It’s spectacular study content, no. of tests, and stepwise practice tests makes it very easy for the students to understand the topics deeply.

How did his journey start?

It all started as he cracked the CAT exam twice after completing his engineering. He then started tutoring students for CAT. Gradually his classes became popular to such an extent that he used to take classes in a stadium being attended by more than 1000 students. All of this acted as hint points forcing him to think about founding something big to change the entire system of education. His app “Byjus” works towards providing a unique and interactive way of learning with the help of 3-D figures and animations which makes the complex structures of chemistry, physics, and other subjects very easy to grasp.

Achievements

Byjus Raveendran along with his wife and brother holds about 35% stakes in the company and a combined net worth of $3 billion. To date, the company has raised around $5billion from potential investors around the world and currently stands at a valuation of $21 billion making it the 5th largest edtech startup in the world. The company has also made no. of acquisitions including the education giant ‘Aakash education and Pvt. Ltd.’, topper, etc. Within a few years of its establishment, Byjus has made its name amongst the topmost education apps of the world.

Future goals

At present, Byjus has more than 100 million users and is aiming at global expansion in the coming years. It is launching newer features every now and then, making it useful even for the students of class 1 and as high as for the students who are preparing for JEE, NEET, CAT, etc. It is focusing both on expansion as well acquisition of the competitors making it grow at a double speed. Byjus runs on a free plus premium model in which it offers a few of its videos to the user for free and the rest can be accessed only after premium subscription. Raveendran aims to provide quality education to every child in a simpler way. He had taken steps toward the literacy of those groups of students also who are not able to afford education costs.

Conclusion

Byju Raveendran is working towards making the tougher concepts easy to understand. The only motivation that made him build such a huge empire was to make students understand concepts using animations rather than rote learning. Byjus app which was launched just 6 years ago has become so big that its growth model has become a topic of discussion in many universities. Raveendran had never thought of becoming a billionaire in his life. He just followed his passion for teaching and ultimately started Byjus which made him that much bigger. It is this hard work, passion, and consistent motivation of Raveendran to educate more and more students which made him achieve success. When he used to tutor classes, students used to enjoy his classes and understand the concepts very easily due to his unique way of teaching. To make himself and his way of teaching accessible to more children across the world, he laid the foundation of Byjus which ultimately became the leading tech giant of India. Byjus became a unicorn within a short period and is experiencing rapid growth towards stomping its foot in the global market of education. Raveendran has taken a step towards the betterment of society and the nation. Education lays down the path to success. People who are educated help in nation-building and act as an asset to the nation. Today, Byjus is not only considered an app but a mission towards making studies- a fun topic amongst students which in turn motivates students to study with enjoyment without any constant force or fear of tough topics.
