Tanjiro kamado is a beloved fictional character of the manga series “Demon Slayer” : “Kimetsu no yaiba”.
Tanjiro became a demon slayer in demon slayer corps after his family was killed by the demons. And, his sister nezuko kamado turned into a demon. His determination to save and protect his sister nezuko.
No matter how much the world calls her a monster. Which shows his deep love for his sister. Tanjiro’s character is built over his kindness and love for his family. Also , his struggle between humanity and violence.
Even after losing his family , he chooses not to be cruel. Despite, fighting against demons as a rival. He chooses kindness towards demons. Unlike many other demon slayers who see demons only as their rival.
He joined the demon slayer corps to find a cure for his sister.
So, that he could bring back her sister into human form again. But, later became passionate in defeating demons and saving humanity. Mainly, to defeat
“Muzan Kitbutsuji”-(The Demon King)-
who is the reason behind all evil and human sufferings. Tanjiro’s combat style combines discipline, adaptability and instinct.
He was shown to be a remarkable fighter having raw talent. Specially, sword fighting along with martial arts style.
While, he was joining the demon slayer corps many people doubted him. Because, he was protecting a demon (His sister).
He still got approval mainly because of sakonji urokodaki and the judgement.
While , training under sakonji urokodaki tanjiro met the spirits of urokodaki’s deceased students “Sabito” and “makomo”.
Who helped him in improving his sword skills and breathing techniques.
After training under urokodaki, tanjiro was sent to the final selection. A dangerously survival test on mount “Fuji kasane”.
Where, candidates had to survive for seven days in a forest filled with demons without any help from hashira and demon slayers. While, training on mount sagiri under urokodaki. Tanjiro managed to impress him by cutting a giant rock as proof that he was ready for the final selection.
Urokodaki was also impressed by his
kind heart and mainly his desire to save his sister rather than just killing demons blindly.
During the final selection, Tanjiro defeated several demons by using water breathing style and also the skills he learnt from urokodaki. And, with strong determination he survived dangerous attacks.
The “Mugen Train” mission begins when the demon slayer corps assigns Tanjiro and kyujuro-Rengoku (who was also known as “Flame Hashira”) to investigate sudden disappearance of passengers on the Mugen Train. As, the corps suspected a powerful demon was responsible.
After the intense battle with the demon “Enmu”.
“Akaza”-An upper rank demon suddenly appeared and attacked rengoku which ended with rengoku’s death. Years later in the “Infinite Castle” battle Tanjiro fought with akaza. After an intense fight Tanjiro succeeded in cutting off akaza’s head. Akaza remembers his human past and accepted death peacefully.
Tanjiro’s fight with akaza became one of the most emotional moments in the demon slayer. As , akaza’s tragic past made many people feel sympathy for him.
Tanjiro has strong abilities like a sense of smell which helps him detect enemies, their emotions and even predict attacks.
He is skilled in sword fighting and uses water breathing techniques. Later, He also awakens “Hinokami Kagura”-(Sun Breathing technique) a powerful ancient breathing style tied to his family.
His fighting style reflects his personality. Showing his determination, emotional but controlled and he remains focused even under pressure. As, he repeatedly survives impossible situations.
Over time, he becomes someone others
trust and respect. He is also extremely hardworking and never gives up.
Even, when facing string enemies.
Tanjiro’s journey is not just about fighting with demons. But, also about his personal growth and regarding his character.
He knows how to value friendship and teamwork. His strong sense of justice and empathy inspires people around him including his rivals. As the story continues he becomes mentally stronger. Learns the harsh realities of the world, accepts sacrifice and loss even though he had painful life experiences. Also, he balances mercy with duty. Yet, he never loses his kind personality.
He shows determination towards suffering and the idea that kindness can exist together with strength. He is very popular among the audience because of his soft hearted character. He cares deeply about others even though they are strangers. Though, He also has sympathy for demons rather than thinking of them as his rival. Yet, he never goes back when it comes to killing them.
Even, when his family was killed, he still came to save his sister which shows his maturity over emotions.
And, Tanjiro’s natural instinct to stay aware and protect everyone makes them feel safe.
Tanjiro used to pick flowers with his siblings when they were still alive. And, he would let his sisters; Hanako and Nezuko make flower crowns and put them on his head. Which shows his wholesome moments with his family.
As, he lived happily with his family on the mountains and helped them by selling charcoal. And, he is able to communicate with animals by understanding their thoughts and emotions.
Head canon event- Sometimes Tanjiro catches the scent of his family members but always turns out to be someone else.
Tanjiro is an empath, who always understands others even in the most
difficult times.
His bond with his sister is unbreakable.
As the most important part of his life is
his love for his sister. Even after she became a demon, Tanjiro always protected her.
During “Asakusa” arc.
Tanjiro and “muzan” (The Demon King)
First met in Asakusa, Tokyo.
Tanjiro recognised muzan’s scent immediately. As it was the exact same odor he smelled the night his family was killed.
But, Muzan distracted Tanjiro as he walking around city in the human form. As, he turned an innocent citizen into a demon.
And, then later during the “Demon Slayer vs Muzan Kibutsuji arc” (Infinity castle)
They met again. Since Muzan is the strongest demon in the existence.
Muzan’s past began during Heian era in Japan. Where, he was born as a very weak human and suffered from severe illness and was expected to die before the age 20.
A doctor tried an experimental treatment using rare medicine called the
“Blue Spider lily”. Before the treatment was completed, Muzan believed the doctor failed to cure his disease and killed him out of anger. Later, it turned out that the medicine had actually worked. His body became incredibly strong, He gained regeneration and immortality. But, He also developed one fatal weakness- sunlight.
Muzan became the first and the strongest demon about 1000 years before the story begins. As, he could create several demons using his blood. He was known as the “Demon King” of all the demons.
As the story continues, It is revealed that
“Kagaya Ubuyashiki” the leader of Demon Slayer Corps is connected to Muzan through the same bloodline.
After Muzan became a demon a curse affected the family. Many family members became sick and died young.
Because, of this Ubuyashiki family dedicated
their lives in destroying Muzan and protecting people from the demons.
Kagaya Ubuyashiki became the leader of Demon Slayer Corps.
Even though he was very sick and weak.
He guided Hashira and the Demon Slayer’s.
During the Final battle, Kagaya invited Muzan to his Mansion and sacrificed himself to weaken Muzan and to help the demon slayers a chance to begin their attack.
“Tamayo” is a major character in the demon slayer playing a major role in killing Muzan.
Which helped to destroy him.
Tamayo was a skilled human doctor before becoming a demon.
She was one of the few demons who was out of Muzan’s control.
She secretly collabs with demon slayer corps to developed drugs that weaken demon’s.
The final battle of Demon Slayer happens in two phases of the story:-
The Infinity castle arc:-
Where, Hashira and demon slayer’s were fighting against upper rank demons.
So, that they can clear the path towards Muzan. After the upper ranks were defeated.
The true final battle begins outsider the castle. The Demon Slayer’s including surviving Hashira and Tanjiro faced Muzan together.
As, Muzan waw extremely powerful.
He could instantly regenerate his body.
While doing deadly attacks. Also, he can split
and extend his body.
Then tamayo injected a four step poison to Muzan during the final battle.
Which results in slowing down his healing,
forces him towards a human state and rapidly ages his body.
Lastly, in the second phase.
Sunrise Showdown:-
The remaining Demon Slayer holds him in a place until the sunrise.
As, the sun rises Muzan cannot regenerate his body fast enough, his body burns rapidly and he was completely destroyed by the sunlight. As, Muzan was dying.
He injects all his remaining blood into Tanjiro’s body. Hoping that tanjiro could survive sunrise with his extreme strength and continue his existence.
Hence, Tanjiro becomes what he has
always fought against.
Since, the drug developed by Tamayo which had already cured Tanjiro’s sister Nezuko from demon form. By the help of drug and
Nezuko’s presence helps stabilize tanjiro’s mind. Which results in waking up again in the human form after a long recovery period.
In the end, Tanjiro is shown living in a world where demons no longer exist. And,
the world becomes peaceful.
As, Tanjiro was also retired from Demon Slayer Corps. In the future he marries
“Kanao Tsuyuri” (who was also a demon slayer). At the end of the story.
He is seen with his family and descendants in future showing that his bloodline continues. He is remembered as one of the heroes who defeated Muzan and the Demons. He inspires others to stay strong in the difficult times.
Finally, Tanjiro Kamado’s story ends with peace, happiness and a world free
from the demons.
Where, his sacrifice is always remembered.
