In this ever-growing world of technology,we fail to deal with the consequences arising from it. Technology should be making this world a better place and not be corrupting it. One such matter which holds the utmost significance is based on ANIMAL TESTING. Here,the importance of banning such a cruel deed will be discussed.
Countless animals are enduring immense suffering in laboratories worldwide, subjected to agonizing and inhumane experiments such as poisoning, burning, gassing, and electrical shock in the name of so called scientific advancement. Let us try to acknowledge that they are creatures too.
●Relying on animals for testing leading to undesirable consequences:
Over 95% of drugs that show promise in animal tests fail in human trials, indicating that animals are not reliable models for human diseases and drug testing. Another instance would be that According to the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just 8% of drugs tested on animals are deemed safe for humans while the other 92% are not. Furthermore the accuracy of animal testing in predicting human responses is questionable, with some tests on rodents only being 43% accurate.
The reality is that animal models are fundamentally defective in their capacity to replicate human biology and physiology. Whatever is researched say on a mouse or a rat does not translate to a human.
They don’t respond the same way humans do when exposed to the same chemicals, which leads to inaccurate estimates of real world hazards and death of animals.In fact, a staggering 90% of drugs that pass animal tests ultimately fail in human clinical trials.This not only constitutes a waste of resources but also raises significant concerns. Imagine investing a huge amount in a medical treatment that shows promise in animal studies, only to have it fail miserably in human trials.The consequences arising would be devastating, not only for the patients who had their hopes on that specific or certain treatment but also for the animals who suffered needlessly in the name of research. In short terms, animal models are not a reliable predictor of human outcomes, and it’s time we acknowledge this crucial thing. Moreover, the reliance on animal models can actually banter the medical progress.
●Animals reaching the verge of extinction by this brutal act?
Now,There are bunch of fields in which animal testing is being implemented like to test cosmetics,etc.
Number of animals used in research in us
rugs,vaccines chemicals and much more. While all these are to be taken into consideration, the cosmetics field dominates most of the damages caused for animals during these experiments.The animals are typically killed when this experiment ends. PETA states that, a couple of the U.S experimenters favourites, the long tailed macaques and the pig tailed macaques, whom are monkey species imported from their homes in Asia and Maurities just to sate the doubts and requirements possessed by people, are being pushed to the brink of extinction,which has been voiced out by the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN), they have said that these species in nature will decline by 50% over the next three generations, if the current threats are not mitigated. It is estimated that more than 115 million animals world wide are being used in laboratory experiments every year and that 10 million animals die from abuse or cruelty every year in U.S alone. Which all obviously is relatively high.There have been initiatives taken to push the FDA more into playing a stronger role in giving the animals a comfortable environment in which they need not be scared of what may happen to them daily. The benefit of this goes beyond eliminating unwanted animal suffering.
●A more broader comprehension
A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center found that 52% of U.S. adults oppose the use of animals in scientific research, showing a growing concern for animals.
Critics of animal testing question the reliability of using animal models to predict human responses. They argue that differences in biology between species can limit the effectiveness of extrapolating results from animals to humans.
According to data from the Humane Society International, approximately 115 million animals are used for testing worldwide each year. This staggering number underscores the significant impact that animal testing can have on both individual animals and ecosystems.
According to a study by the European Commission, it is estimated that around 12.1 million animals are used in experiments in the European Union annually. This high number of animals used for testing can have a significant impact on local ecosystems and wildlife populations.
According to a report by the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT), the environmental impact of animal testing is significant. For instance, In the United States alone, it is estimated that animal testing facilities generate over 1 million pounds of waste each year.
●Better alternatives:
Alternatives like computer modals could be used. They’ve developed research by allowing scientists to simulate complex biological processes, including digestion. By creating proper computer models that mimic the human digestive system, researchers can study how different foods and substances interact with our bodies without the need for animal experiments. These models can provide detailed insights into digestion processes and help predict how our bodies may respond to various substances.
Another one could be lab models to simulate digestion, replacing 80% of food-related animal tests offer better and effective ways to conduct research without harming animals.In vitro lab models that simulate digestion processes offer a controlled environment to study how food components are broken down and absorbed by the body. These models can replicate aspects of human digestion, allowing researchers to investigate nutrient absorption, bioavailability, and potential health effects of different food components.
Furthermore,with the way the globe is developing, there has been a few improvements like the creation of organ-on-a-chip models that allow clinicians to test chemicals and medications on human tissues without having to disturb or destroy another innocent beings livelihood. Recent academic studies found that these organs chips detected toxicity in nearly 7 out of 8 drugs, this progressive situation is obviously much better,as it also offers an 87% success rate far better than the 10% success rate of those drugs approved using animal tests.
Moreover,By atleast replacing 80% of food-related animal tests with these innovative approaches, researchers can gather reliable data, protect animal welfare, and promote more sustainable research practices.

To conclude,let us try to gain insight from proper researches and comprehend that opting for better alternatives would enhance development and provide a better environment to live in rather than killing poor,innocent animals which serves no significant use and only unwanted consequences or damages arising.
