Certain incidents teach us a lifelong lesson which are quiet essential for us to become a decent and righteous human being. I would like to share one such incident which teaches us never to blame any person without evidences. It was a day of Deepavali, everyone was surrounded by cheerfulness and exhilaration. Ria and her brother, Animesh had requested their father, Mr. Sharma to bring a lot of crackers, gifts and sweets. However Mr. Sharma looked quiet disturbed and anxious since morning. It seemed something must have affected him deeply.

Ria asked him the reason, he replied, “I am unable to discover my wallet. It had all the incentive I received for Deepavali. If I don’t find it, It will be great trouble!” They all were greatly shocked and worried. A boy named Chotu used to work in their house. He belonged to a poor family and had asked Mr.Sharma for some extra money as his brothers and sisters had demanded crackers and sweets but Mr.Sharma had refused to give it saying that he had already taken advance money.

Ria told Animesh, “Perhaps Chotu must have done it…..Father had denied him the extra money so he stole his….” Even Animesh started believing that this might have happened after thinking for a while. Without thinking anything else, they both rushed to Chotu’s hut and accused him of stealing. Ria said,”You are a thief…you have stolen our father’s wallet that is why you have purchased so many crackers and sweets.Spoiling our deepavali ,you want to celebrate?”

Ria and his brother threw away the crackers and sweets. Chotu continuously pleaded for mercy and told that he was innocent but both of them did not believe him at all. Chotu ran out crying loudly. Suddenly Animesh received a call in which his father told him that he found his purse in the side desk of the table. Ria and Animesh were taken aback. They were too disturbed to speak anything. Somehow they told everything to their parents and cried for what they did. They all rushed to find Chotu, surprisingly they found him sitting on the footpath.

His body continued to be racked with sobbing. He murmured, “I did not steal anything….I just wanted to bring smile on the face of my sisters and brothers. I also have the right to celebrate Deepavali.” Ria and Animesh ran to Chotu and apologized to him heartily. He told them that he worked hard for extra hours at the sweet shop and arranged money. Ria and Animesh felt guilty for what they did. Ria and Animesh then shared all their crackers and sweets and celebrated Deepavali with Chotu and his family. Someone rightly said, “Never blame someone without knowing the truth. Because your one blame destroys someone’s heart….”
