Let me tell you about my first day in college journey. I woke up early in the morning the sun was raising, it was so beautiful, the birds were singing, it felt like a perfect day. We drove for a few hours and reached college the campus was huge there were many buildings and beautiful gardens everywhere. We found my hostel building and took the elevator to the third floor. My room no was 203, when I opened the door, I saw a small room which was two bed, two desks and two closets. My roommate had already arrived her name is Sowndarya and she seems really nice. Sowndarya and I started to unpack our things and decorate our room.
I put up some posters of my favorite band and pictures of my family and friends. Sowndarya put up some lights then her favorite books on the shelf, our room looked very nice and comfortable. When it was time for my father and mother to leave the hostel. I felt sad and I hugged him tightly, until his car disappeared down the road. I went back the room and felt slept on my bed. Next day It was my first day at college campus and like many others fresher’s students, I was both excited and nervous. As I entered the first-year class, I noticed a group of students chatting, most of them clearly trying to make friends. I quietly found a seat near the middle, observing the room while pretending to check my phone.
A few minutes later, our Professor, Dr.G.Sharmila, walked in. She greeted us with a warm smile and started the class by introducing himself. Then, she did something unexpected. “Let’s go around the room and introduce ourselves,” she said. “Tell us your name, where you are from, and one thing you are passionate about”. I felt a knot in my stomach. Public speaking was not my strength and I was not sure what to say to make a good impression. I listened as the introductions started some students were confident, speaking clearly about their home towns and their interests.
Others, like me, were a bit more nervous, stammering their way through a few sentences. As the turn came closer, I reminded myself of a tip I had read: be honest and be yourself. When it was finally my turn, I took a deep breath and stood up. “Hi, everyone. My name is Archanaa,” I began. “I am from Salem, and I am here to study Physics”. I paused the moment, then continued, “One thing I am passionate about is circuit designing, but beyond that I love photography. Capturing moments helps me see the world differently, and it gives me a creative break from all the technical stuff”.
There was a brief silence, and then I saw a few students nodding and smiling. It was not a ground breaking introduction, but it felt real. I sat back down, relieved that I had survived. As the class continued, I noticed of the girls who had introduced herself earlier glance in my direction. Later, during a break, she approached me. “Hey, I also love photography!” she said with a smile.
We ended up chatting about cameras and our favorite places to take pictures. it was not long before we exchanged numbers, and I felt the first wave of connection in this a new chapter of my life. That day taught me an important lesson: introductions do not have to be perfect or flashy. Being genuine is enough to start building relationships. By the end of the day, I felt more relaxed and found new friends and happy. I knew college was going to be an amazing adventure. I have a nice friends and roommate a beautiful campus and a lot of exciting things to learn.
