Imagine you are in Sydney and are witnessing the beautiful tale of Ram and Jaanu. Love is very hard and Orange had depicted it beautifully. It is a fresh movie which shows love in a different angle.

Movie is about

This Telugu movie opens in Sydney. Ram (Ram Charan Teja) is a person who never lies and who doesn’t believe in long term love. He had nine past relationships which he claims them “successful”. Jaanu (Genelia) is a lovely girl who always wished for long lasting love like her parents but don’t know whom to choose. The characters are very opposite to each other.

Janu initially rejects him as he points her wrong for the way she childishly tries to find out her worthy husband. But she eventually falls for him for the love he shows towards her and asks Ram to give her the same love her entire life. Ram clearly explains that he loves her so much but will never get into life long commitments. Jaanu will be in a big shock after listening to his words and tries to ignore him for a few days. But Ram truly loves her and keeps coming back to her.

Jaanu tries to prove that love can be life long by explaining that her friends and parents are very happy in their lives with their partners. Ram says they all are lying which angers Jaanu and her friends. Soon Jaanu realises that one of her friend’s partner is cheating and even her own mother is not that happy in her marriage which questioned her strong assumptions on life long love till now. Ram shows Jaanu how dangerous can life long love be by showing her that loving till end is as dangerous as driving our car ,relying on opposite car’s headlights and turning our’s off. Now there will be a past story. The second lead Rooba enters and this story, despite starting beautifully, ends in fights.

This story shows why Ram is hesitant to stay life long with someone as in this relationship he always had to lie to make Rooba happy. This creates tension in him and worries him. He starts to think if he should lie his entire life to make her happy. He just couldn’t take this anymore and breaks up with her. That moment ,he feels instant relief and decided to never lie in his life again. Now the story again comes back to Sydney. Ram’s driving example slowly starts to make sense to Jaanu. She realises Ram is the one for her. She goes back again to him and thanks him for saving her whenever she is in confusion. She again asks for a life long love.

Ram will be initially happy as Jaanu came back to him but will be soon disturbed again ,because of Jaanu’s wish. Hurt, Jaanu starts to avoid him .Ram can’t take this anymore and a neighbour who also has issues with his wife explains him the importance of loving a person till the end despite having fights. Ram knows that the neighbour and his wife always have arguments but he sees him buy his wife’s favourite plant . This shows how love can exist between fights and will be an eye opener to Ram where he understands the importance of loving a person till the end. Ram’s sister is also going through a hard time in her marriage and is ready to take divorce.

Ram, who is slowly changing his thoughts on commitments, asks his sister and brother in law to not take divorce and stay married. Now Ram is ready to change for Jaanu and changes himself as per her wishes. The film ends on a happy note where Ram and Jaanu are very happy and everyone around them are also happy in their marriages with a proper understanding.

Plus factors

Both the actors did their job exceptionally well. The biggest plus is the music. Harris Jayaraj gave beautiful music which still stands as an industry hit. Every song is beautifully shot and the music is very soothing. Ram’s character is entirely new to every viewer but the way it is portrayed in the movie is too good. Director excellently showed the realisations of heroine by the impact of real life adventures shown by Ram .One more plus factor is they shot the entire movie in colourful locations .It is a beautiful visual experience. The cinematography made it a a very colourful movie.

Minus factors

The film is a very mature concept for that time back in 2010.It tried to show a modern complex love story in a completely new way.  The hero characterization is not understood by many viewers back then. So it did not reach the audience correctly.

Other factors

Actors like Brahmanandam, Prabhu and Prakash Raj did a very good job. Comedy worked out really well. The past love story references of Ram has strengthened his strong statement that love lasts only for a small time. Especially Ram and Rooba’s story is a turning point to show why Ram has this strong perception that love doesn’t last long and even if it lasts it only stands on lies. Ram’s style of loving clearly shows why he claims himself as “World’s greatest lover”. He once draws an entire graffiti painting of Jaanu. This shows Ram’s love towards her.

Conclusion

“Orange” is a rollercoaster of different emotions which are really portrayed well. It basically questions the existing beliefs about life time commitments. This can also be explained as an example story of a situation when two opposites fall in love and how they change for each other and what do they learn in the process. Orange is a must watch for those who love to explore fresh love stories .It challenges your thoughts on practicality of love now a days and will leave you with a smiling face after the watch.
