Online Learning is simply referred as electronic learning (E-learning) and online course . It means through which students can acquire the knowledge and the skills required through the Internet without having to travel further. 

  In the recent past, however technology has taken a tremendous growth which is also being transferred into education sector. People have come to discover how convenient and reliable the internet because of this reason that online learning is gaining much popularly in the world of technology. The modern method of education, known as online education, differs greatly from the traditional method of learning. For a better comprehension of the students, the instructor or mentor employs a variety of techniques, including texts, audios, films, animations, etc. 

Education through Digital Medium after COVID 19 Pandemic: 

From the beginning of the march 2020 the deadly COVID 19 pandemic made the entire world to remain closed. Schools, Colleges and Universities are also closed and students were forced to stay at their home without focusing on their studies. Gradually schools started providing education through online classes by using different applications like Google meet, Zoom, etc. In colleges and universities semester exam also started through online mode. In such time online education is proving the best medium of education. 

Online learning is the future of education: 

Changes is the key role of nature and we should adapt the changes from time to time to live in harmony with nature. Today all of us, use the internet and learning through it can really take education to another level. It is getting popular day by day and is also one of the easy and convenient mediums.  There are many institutions have started online classes and students find it more convenient, they save their travelling time and can easily focus on their studies. Initially the people started sharing their ideas through their website and social media platform like YouTube, Google meet made it easier to share the voce and knowledge with entire world. People also started teaching through online mode in YouTube as it provides free platform from where people can interact with entire world and they also can earn money through online. 

Government Initiatives for Smooth Online learning in India: 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Digital Education in India was the sole source of learning for the students in the country. Indian government launched numerous initiatives to facilitate online learning through a various type of apps, channels, portals and other tools. This article covers all such initiatives as well as the benefits and challenges of Online learning. 

  • E-Pathshala: e-Pathshala app and web portal can be used to access e-textbooks audio and video content of NCERT available in different languages – English, Sanskrit, Urdu, and Hindi. 
  • SWAYAM: providing an integrated platform for online courses. 
  • NPTEL: providing an integrated platform for online courses conducted all Indian Institute of Technologies. 
  • NEAT: It uses Artificial Intelligence to make learning more personalized and customized as per the requirements of the learner 
  • PRAGYATA: The MHRD released guidelines on digital education titled PRAGYATA. Under the PRAGYATA guidelines, only 30 minutes of screen time per day for interacting with parents is recommended for kindergarten, nursery and preschool. 
  • Shiksha Vani: It is a radio show of the CBSE used by learners of grades 12 to 9, containing more than 430 pieces of audio content for all subjects. 
  • DIKSHA (Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing): It is the ‘one nation; one digital platform’ for school education in India launched in 2017, available for schools in all states from class 1 to 12 through mobile applications and web portals. 

Advantages of Online  Learning: 

The advantages of Online learning in terms of convenience also include the ability to access lectures online, to communicate with professors via e-mail, and access to Online platforms and tools that can upgrade learning experience. 

Accessible to All: Everyone has access to online schooling. Online education is available to students of all backgrounds and ages. For students who have physical disabilities, this is one of the main benefits. They can receive an education from the comfort of their own home without having to travel anyplace. 

No Time Limit: Students have a lot of freedom with online education. Anytime, students can seek knowledge. There is no time limit like there is in the traditional learning method. 

Disadvantages of Online Learning: 

Online classes require strong self-discipline. Without the structure of a physical classroom, some students may struggle to stay organized and motivated.  

Lack of Resources: online learning requires computers or mobile devices as well as strong internet connectivity. Online study is not possible for those without computers or in places with network problems. 

Health issues: Students spending hours in front of screen may develop a eye problem and head ache backpain and neck pain. 

Online vs Offline Course Comparision 

Time management: Unlike online education, where you can choose a time slot that best suits your needs, offline education has a set timetable. 

Cost-Effectiveness: Online learning is significantly less expensive than traditional learning. Transportation costs are just one of the numerous costs associated with the existing educational system. Students require appropriate uniforms as well as a number of other items. Online learning presents new challenges for students, but it also has the potential to cut them off from their surroundings. Children’s physical and mental development are both aided by attending school.  

Knowledge Outside the Books: In an offline setting, students physically interact. They also learn other manners, such as self-control, appropriate behavior, and other related abilities. These competencies are not produced by offline schooling. 

In Conclusion Increased educational access, high-quality learning opportunities, improved student outcomes and abilities, and more educational options are some of the possible benefits of online education. Because of online education, variables like location, time, and quality are no longer taken into account when looking for degree programmes or higher education.
