History of Christian Schools International
Christian Schools International (CSI) is an international network of Christian schools dedicated to increasing access to quality education. Founded in 1973, CSI serves over 300 member schools located in the United States, Canada, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The history of Christian Schools International dates back to the early 1970s when a group of leaders from various denominations met with the goal of creating a unified organization for Christian schools. The founders wanted to promote unity among all denominations and create an association that would focus on providing quality Christian education throughout North America.
In 1973, representatives from 18 different denominations gathered together at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and established what would become known as Christian Schools International (CSI). This inaugural meeting resulted in the formation of an umbrella organization designed to provide leadership and support for existing individual school systems and new educational initiatives among these churches. Since its inception 45 years ago, CSI has grown steadily both domestically and internationally. Today there are more than 300 member schools located around the world representing several denominations including Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian Church USA/Reformed Church USA/United Church of Christ as well as independent non-denominational churches.
