There are various festivals that people celebrate all around the world. The festivals have some importance in various religions. But at times, it is difficult to analyze the extent to which some festivals can damage our environment. Any festival as a whole is good, but some of the activities can be bad for the environment. Various festivals can depict this issue.
First, we can take the example of Diwali. It is one of the most widely celebrated and popular festivals in India. But during this festival, several crackers are making our lives difficult. The pollution from crackers is also affecting the environment to a great extent. The pollution in this case is in terms of noise and air. Every year after the day of Diwali, most of the cities in our country face the problem of highly polluted air quality. So, we need to take care of the pollution we create due to the crackers.
The next festival is the Durga Puja. During this festival, a lot of idols are made for worship. Various pandals are set up in various corners of the world. The main thing is the fact that after the puja celebration, the idols are submerged in various water bodies during visarjan. So as a result, various water bodies become polluted. But nowadays, idols are being made with such environment-friendly materials that the water bodies are not being affected much.
Now, the third example can be the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Even during this festival, the same issues occur, that we face after Durga Puja. So this festival is also facing the same issues, therefore the idols in this case also being made of environment-friendly materials.
Now, the next festival is the Festival of colour. During this festival, there have been various issues of colours made of chemicals which people use on one another. So, to remove this issue also, now we have organic colours. Organic colours are not harmful to the skin and the soil.
The next example is that of the Onam. During this festival, there is a celebration. The celebration is in a friendly manner and the festival is also not affected by the after-effects. In any manner, the results are not there and the environment is in a happy and normal mode. So, it is a festival which is good for the environment.
So, these are some of the festivals that do affect the environment in a bad way and some are friendly to the environment. So, there are both kinds of festivals in terms of damage to the environment. Some are harmful and some are not.
But, there are also some rules and regulations which we can follow and take care of our surroundings. This will ensure that the environment gets some relief and gets the opportunity in some way to improve its health. This will even reduce the efforts that we need to put in after the festivals to clean up the mess that is created afterwards.
But there is also a question that what needs to be done to reduce the aftereffects even more. So, for that, there are certain things that the government can do for us. First of all, the mass advertisements that are shown to us through television and hoarding. It will raise awareness regarding the things that one needs to do to avoid damage to the environment.
Now, the following few important things include time and resources. In this case, we can say that time can also be a factor that one can consider to limit the celebrations. This will reduce unnecessary wastage. It will reduce the amount of waste in the environment after that one can also view the things that we use for any particular festival. It will put focus on the raw materials that are being used to manufacture it and then people can get the same thing with some better-quality materials.
All these points depict that festivals can be celebrated in a better way. It will be good for the environment as well as future generations. It will ensure that future generations are also able to enjoy the festivals healthily. It will also increase the level of awareness among the people to take care of the environment while celebrating any festival.
The better the quality of the environment, the better it will be for all of us. We can also take note of the festivals and how our previous generations used to celebrate the festivals. It will also clear the fact that the lack of technology was not a hurdle for the older generations while celebrating any festival. This will also make it easier for future steps if we consider the previous methods in a festival. So some of the rituals and festivals do take note of the environment for our betterment and the betterment of society.
