If you are someone who’s been using makeup for quite some time, just close your eyes and think of the first product you ever tried? Without thinking too much about it, you can say it was a Kajal. Kajal has been around since ages and has been used to adorn your eyes continuously.

It is believed that this beautiful piece of makeup has its roots in the Arabian countries and Egyptian women used it before that. There are many kinds of kajal in the market today including pencil kajal, powder kajal, gel kajal but it can be created at home with minimal, natural and organic ingredients.

Kajal made with organic ghee has a lot of benefits. It cools and calms your eyes, it also reduces under eye dark circles and removes salt from the eyes as well. Here are a few recipes you can try to make gel kajal at home –

Organic Ghee Kajal-

All you need to do is light a diya at home with ghee in it. Place it over a plate & light the wick. Hold a plate invertedly and from a little far away. You can see the soot getting gathered on the plate. Once there’s enough, collect & escape the soot into a container and add a little bit more of organic ghee. Let it calm and it is ready to use.

Camphor Kajal-

Another great opportunity to use camphor and diya apart from auspicious practices, camphor is purifying in every sense. To make kajal from camphor, place the camphor pieces in diya, place a plate beneath it, and light it up. Place an inverted plate on the diya and let the soot get collected on the surface. Once it is done, collect the soot and keep it in the container.

Castor Oil Kajal-

Castor oil is thick in nature and perhaps the most hydrating and moisturising oils. It is majorly used for hair growth and is applied on eyebrows and eyelashes for thickness & healthy texture. To make kajal with castor oil, place a wick in diya, light it up and cover it on both sides with bowls. Apply a little bit of castor oil on a steel plate and place it above the wick. Once it’s completely burned off, collect the soot as it dries and add 2 drops of castor oil to make it into gel kajal. Store and use afterwards.

Sandalwood Kajal-

Sandalwood is known for its calming properties. It is used as a paste to reduce sunburns, rashes and redness. To make kajal with sandalwood powder, make it into a paste with a little bit of water. Now, soak a muslin cloth in this paste and let it dry naturally. Once the cloth is dried, make it into a wick for diya. Place the diya over a plate, add some organic products like organic ghee into it and light it. On a plate, apply some castor oil and hold it up the wick. Once the soot is collected, put it into a container and use it afterwards.
