Curing the voiceless : Veterinary Clinical Complex ,COVAS Parbhani
Animals ,although voiceless in language, communicate pain ,love and need through their behaviour . This inability to speak suffering through words makes their care a unique responsibility and this responsibility is well understood by the teaching institutions and one such institution is College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Parbhani i.e COVAS Parbhani under which there is a branch called Veterinary Clinical Complex aka VCC which is responsible for handling and curing the animals with love ,care and patience . COVAS Parbhani was established in year 1972 and VCC is a part since then . VCC is not a mere hospital or a treatment centre but a holistic institution which is dedicated to healing ,research ,education and compassion. VCC is a hope of these voiceless beings .
VCC is the heart of any Veterinary institution. It is the place where animals come with suffering but leaves with healing and affection . The animal feels affection by the doctors and students . VCC not just helps the animals in curing but also helps the students who are going to be doctors ,practice on them. The students learn the practical aspects of veterinary practice . Students interact directly with the animals and owners and learn the ethics of working or practicing.
VCC at COVAS , Parbhani comprises of 3 major disciplines that is Medicine , Surgery and Gynaecology other braches like pathology ,parasitology and microbiology also plays an important role . VCC houses modern equipments such as X ray ,ultrasound machines ,surgical units ,clinical laboratory and isolation wards for contagious diseases.
VCC also promotes th idea of one health that is the environmental, animal and the human health is interconnected and they are not at all separable . If the environment is healthy both the animals and humans will be healthy and if animals are healthy then there will be very low chances of zoonotic diseases.
VCC functions in a dual way . One side it provides them healthcare services and gives them a healthy life and put their life on the normal track and another side it helps the students to better understand the animal disorders . It helps the students to practice on the animals and learn so much about them .VCC is the connecting dot between the theoretical study and practical study . What students learn in their classes ,they can actually witness it and also during the treatment of animals they provide them the care and affection to ease them during treatment .
VCC plays an important role in making the students a actual doctor .VCC has seen many students become doctors .Students wearing white apron first threaten the animals but later make them comfortable as they too understand the language of affection that students speak to them .
VCC is not just a facility ,but it’s the lifeline of the animals . Here the animals are treated equally whether it’s a bullock from nearby village ,pet from the town or an abandoned calf to rescue .
The VCC staff comprises of Veterinary Surgeons, Gynaecologists , ,Physicians ,post graduate students who provide round the clock services .
The facilities in VCC ,COVAS Parbhani includes :
1. Outpatient department(OPD) : It handles a large number of patients on a daily basis ,offering consultation ,treatments and follow ups . From vaccination to treatment OPD is the first line of defence for the patients .
2. Surgery and Radiology : The department is well equipped with X ray machines ,Ultrasound machines, laproscopy and endoscopy machines. The patients who needs surgery or who are in a need to undergo X ray are treated here . The patients with fracture and lameness also find there way in this department.
3. Gynaecology: The department is specially dedicated to the female patients . Patients are brought here for the pregnancy diagnosis, regular check ups during pregnancy and other Gynaecology related conditions.
4. Lab diagnosis: For the lab diagnosis the samples are first collected from stool,urine,sputum,blood and serum an then are sent to the pathology, parasitology and microbiology laboratories where the samples are tested precisely and diagnosis are made.
5. Inpatient Department: The department is specially dedicated to the patients who need some time to recover after undergoing surgery or treatment. The patients can be admitted here for 2-3 days .
6. Ambulatory services :The college also provides Ambulatory services to the patients in which one veterinary doctor mainly a professor from VCC along with some undergraduate students are sent to the village in an ambulance where they treat the cases. They provide healthcare services and spread awareness about animal husbandry and disease prevention .
In conclusion, VCC at COVAS Parbhani, provides veterinary education ,promotes animal welfare and support rural livelihoods. It provides a platform to the veterinary students to gain practical experience in diagnosis ,treatment and management of a wide range of animal health issues .
This helps the students to shape themselves in competent and compassionate veterinarian and apart from learning and teaching it is the place where animal owners feel relaxed because they know that there animal is in safe hands and they leave their worries as soon as they enter the clinic .College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Parbhani has provided a gem to the people ,animals and students in the name of Veterinary Clinical Complex aka VCC.
