Have you ever wondered why certain trends used to be so unpopular then skyrocketed in the next 2 or 3 years later? Trending like the bell bottoms, crop tops and chunky sneakers are making a come-back. Some trends just got influenced by celebrities and influencers. Recently, Korean entertainment companies have gotten very popular with k-drama and k-pop that they produce along with their celebrities that have made a huge global impact on Korean beauty products. Korean celebrities promoted Korean beauty products such as glass skin care, glossy-textured makeup styles and lip plumpers. Soon these styles of makeup became a global trend.
Korean trends like these started with global kpop groups like Blackpink and BTS. Not only did these celebrities become the global icon for kpop but also became a trendsetter for Korean products. Subtitles played a huge role in helping k-dramas get popular all over the world! With more than 10 languages in apps like netflix and prime video help people who don’t speak Korean understand the film. Thanks to this, Korean makeup shops are everywhere! Social media spread content about what products these celebrities use and people began following them!
In Korea, people are making DIY rice face masks and making lip glosses and makeup. These DIY methods also got very popular and spread on social media. These trends have dominated people and now people even start asking random korean people about makeup and skincare products.
In my opinion, this trend helped Korean culture spread globally, but also has some negative effects. Having these trends can be an issue where people can harm themselves to look prettier. Now, having a round face is the trend and people are getting chemicals injected into their skin or getting plastic surgery to make their face look rounder. These can lead to permanent face paralysis.
In conclusion, people don’t have to change themselves to fit in. Everyone is unique, having different facial features, styles and likings. People can like these trends however should not dislike themselves and harm their own health with these. We should always like ourselves the way we are.
