Poetry is an art that speaks. World Poetry Day was declared by UNESCO ( the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ) in 1999 and is celebrated on 21st of March to support multilingualism through poems and thereby increase the opportunity for the wide range of languages to be heard. It is celebrated to acknowledge the amazing contributions by all the poets. One of the reasons would be to create awareness among young poets to value and preserve the art of poetry. Earlier World Poetry Day was celebrated in October as it marked the birthday of Virgil, who is one of Rome’s greatest poets. He is famous for his Epic Aeneid. Although many countries still celebrate national and international poetry day in October, sometimes a November date is celebrated as well. The United Kingdom marks this day on the first Thursday In October.
POETRY IS AN ART
Poetry is one of the art forms which was used in ancient times by all the cultures and countries in the world. Poems were written in different languages in the form of religious and historic poems. World Poetry Day aims at supporting and appreciating the contributions of poets around the world. World Poetry Day is celebrated to recognize the role of poetry in each culture and each country around the globe. The idea is to elevate teaching of poetry across the globe. It also supports small publishing firms and creates a captivating image of poetry and to prove that poetry although being an ancient form is not an old-fashioned method and is one of the most beautiful form of art to ever exist. World Poetry Day gives a ray of hope and motivate young aspirants interested in poetry to continue their work and it also gives them a sense of assurance that this form of art is still in existence and one cold make a living out of it. One of the reasons also include to decrease the ” invisibility of poetry in media” since poetry is not discussed as much as other forms are. What is Poetry ? A few lines jotted down? Or maybe a few lines jotted down that rhyme together ? Poetry is a form of art just like painting, dancing , singing and a lot more. But poetry being silent could still speak a thousand words. It allows one to pen down their emotions and feelings. Poems are a beautiful amalgamation of one’s thought. Poems are our deep honest thoughts written down in a symphonic manner. Turning our feelings and thoughts into poems could unwrap the creative and artistic side of our brain which has been dominated by analytical and methodical thinking. Creativity is a big part when it comes to writing poems, one must be exceptionally creative. One of the best ways to write poetry is when one is not sure about the end and let their creativity unwrap during the journey. Real beauty lies in pure ness. A lot of emotions are felt while reading a poem. Sometimes it takes us to the mountains, sometimes it takes us to the seas, one poem makes us want to be a kid again and the other makes us feel that we are all grown up, sometimes it makes us cry and sometimes it makes us laugh. We tend to think or maybe even overthink sometimes about a certain poetry but one thing is true that every poem teaches us something. Do you ever wonder how a dull day could get replaced by a cheerful day by just reading a certain poem ? Some poems truly put one in a blithesome mood. Poetry is magic, fire , dreamy and it is whatever you want it to be.
The World Poetry Day acknowledges the hard work each poet puts in to create a beautiful piece of art. Poetry should not only be celebrated on the 21st March of every year but it should be celebrated everyday. It creates an impact on the young minds and it activates the creative side of their brain since a lot of pre-schools and schools conduct poetry writing activities and competitions on World Poetry Day. Many artists come together and share their thoughts and knowledge on this auspicious day. Exhibitions take place where a lot of poetry is talked and showcased. One can buy books by several leading poets. Poetry is one of the finest and elegant forms of art which should be embraced. It is our honour to have this auspicious day and we should be grateful to all the artists serving us with magnificent poetry. In conclusion, World Poetry Day was and will be one of the most promising and inspirational occasions to be celebrated for all the budding poets across the world.
