To combat the situation leading to negative consequences and handover
the beautiful natural forest to our future generation, the field of forestry offers
many opportunities in the career. A student can become a Chief Forest Officer,
Forest Range Officer, Wildlife forensics officer, Wildlife forensics officer,
lecturers, forest ranger, Forester, botanist, forest researcher, ecologist,
ethnologist, or a forest guide. Several reputed colleges offer the forestry courses
such as College of natural resources in Bhutan, Forest Research Institute,
Dehradun, College of Horticulture and Forestry in India, College of Forestry,
Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, the University of Tokyo in
Japan, College of Horticulture and Forestry Sciences in China.
I wish to share some of my personal experiences with you on this career
path. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) in forestry from the
College of Natural Resources in Bhutan. Here, I am gaining experience in this
profession with the help and support of our college management and lecturers. I
am pleased to say that I have participated in several plantation drives and forest
surveys during the first semester. Furthermore, we also got trained for one week
on applied silviculture during the second semester and the third semester
comprised of forest mensuration and forest protection practical while the forth
one involved fifteen days of Local Forest Management planning. Till now, it has
been a great learning experience for me in the field of forestry.
Last but not least, the forestry program encompasses a broad area of
the study from the nurturing, managing, monitoring to the utilisation of the
forest. It bears enormous potential for people who are closely related to nature.
Forest is the backbone of national socio-economic development for the better
livelihood. It provides enormous benefits for the survival of life on the mother
earth. Besides, fulfilling survival needs, it also acts as a buffer during the natural
calamities. The conservation and preservation of forest have become vital so that
our generation and future children could enjoy the ecosystem services
and pictures the diversity of flora and fauna.
