People choose the forestry course for sustainably managing and conserving the
forest. This profession ensures that there is the protection of endangered wildlife
species for the coming generations. Through the course of forestry, people can
learn and advocate the awareness programs to accentuate the need to minimize
the illegal activities causing a severe threat to the biodiversity. It also provides a
platform for the eradication of poverty by providing the opportunity to the far-
flung rural people to access to the forest through scientific management
practices. After pursuing the forestry program, the jobs are abundant and
fruitfully available.
The Indian Forest Service (IFS) is one of the
three All India Services of the Government of
India apart from Indian Administrative
Service (IAS) and the Indian Police
Service (IPS). The main mandate of the service
is the implementation of the National Forest
Policy. Officers are recruited through an open
competitive examination conducted by the
UPSC followed by training for 2 years in
Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy.
A person can find jobs in the private sector as well as government
organizations. People employed in the forestry sector are allowed to work indoor
or outdoor or a mixture of both. This gives them the diverse environment to
work and enrich their practical knowledge, wisdom, and social skills, which are
the prerequisite for success in the career. The world forest covers nearly third of
all lands on the earth and also provides the home to a large population of
animals and diversity of plants. Forest contributes to the enormous amount of
oxygen generation and absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It forms
the backbone of life on the earth and sustains the balance of the forest
ecosystem. Therefore, forests are rightly called the lungs of the planet. Forest
also contributes to the socio-economic development of the country. However,
due to unlimited human needs, we clear millions of hectares of forest every year
exceeding the carrying capacity for agriculture purposes, road construction,
timber plantation, mining, and industries causing the severe threat of
deforestation. We all know that nature is providing enough for very needs of
humankind, but the greed of human is more than the mother earth can support
us. Thus, it is paramount to protect and conserve the forest before it is too late
for us. Beyond any shadow of a doubt, there is the over-exploitation taking
place, which requires an urgent solution.
