Responsibilities of a researcher
A research scientist's work is almost entirely laboratory-based, with
responsibilities that include:
o Planning and conducting experiments.
o Recording and analysing data.
o Carrying out fieldwork, e.g. collecting samples.
o Presenting results to senior/other research staff.
o Writing research papers, reports, reviews and summaries.
o Demonstrating procedures.
o Preparing research proposals and funding applications.
o Supervising junior staff including technicians.
o Organising product/materials testing.
o Ensuring that quality standards are met.
o Liaising with research and/or production staff.
o Developing original solutions to problems.
o Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.
o Teaching
Career opportunities
There are various career opportunities in private and premium government
originations such as BARC, ISRO, DRDO, NASA etc. with handsome salary.
Research as a career is known to be the most prestigious and respected. Private
companies offer the best salaries for their researcher considering its importance.
The “prestige tag” associated with a scientist can not be matched by any “slaray
tag”. Everyone respect scientist and professionals associated with research.
Above all with the increasing Government aids in doing research, there is no
dearth of jobs after post doctoral education. Therefore, the future of the
research scientist is looking very bright.
