There are 3 main important ingredients of counseling without which counseling
process would be incomplete. They are:-
1) Counsellor
The main aim of a counselor is to provide relief from the trouble in the client's
life and make the person a fully functioning human being. The primary qualities
should include:
* Ability to communicate - Communication is the basic criteria required to
become a fully functioning psychological counselor. Communication skills
include speaking and active listening to what the client says.
* Analytical and interpretative ability - The ability to analyse and respond to what
the client says.
*Self Image - Developing a clear image about one's self so that the other person
can feel inspired, gain trust and be ready to accept the person as a therapist who
would provide the fruitful solution to his or her problem.
*Empathy rather than sympathy - Developing empathy rather than just sympathy
to understand the feeling of another person from their perspective without
making any judgment.
These characteristics help a counselor to become an effective, self-sufficient
helper.
