Wildlife Photography
Photography of any kind in itself is a good choice as a career; the only thing
which is important in regard to this profession is how fast and how much do you
want to earn. It requires a big investment and patience to choose wildlife
photography as a career. Photographing wildlife in their natural habitat provides
an opportunity of experiencing the sheer thrill and rare excitement of their
fascinating and complicated world. This desirous field of photography is not just
about clicking photographs but enjoying the wildlife and gaining thorough
knowledge about their surroundings. Whether it is an activity of roaring lion,
yawning tiger, an alert leopard, a jolly elephant, or huge flying pelicans, capturing
wildlife on the camera lens is a treasured experience in itself that offers umpteen
rare moments to cherish for a lifetime.
As a profession, wildlife photography seeks for immense passion for
wildlife, nature, and
conservation, along with in-
depth knowledge of these
subjects. One should possess
sound technical skills, such as
being able to expose correctly,
good field craft skills and
stalking skills, sharp eyesight,
true-colour vision, stamina,
coordination, efficiency, and
willingness to work outdoors in
all type of weather conditions to
become a wildlife photographer.
He must also have lots of
patience to wait for the picture-
perfect moment. Additionally, he must have strong communication skills to deal
with the wildlife park authorities to seek permits and visit the restricted areas.
Wildlife photography offers not only opportunities for creativity and
working outdoors, but also it is a highly competitive career which is difficult to
break into. Wildlife photographers must be prepared to work in all types of
weather conditions and at unusual times of day to capture wildlife in their natural
surroundings. While many wildlife photographers work independently, or as
freelance photographers, magazine publishers and production studios,
government agencies and wildlife organizations also employ them.
